No u don't u, Only when u want to write mathematical programs, a programming language is mostly English ie, echo 'hello world'; system.out.println("hello" document.write('hey'); see not maths its most of English.. 1 Like |

you don't fight wars without being forearmed to the tooth with the most adequate tools. mathematics goes with programming although we programmers detest it with passion, same way electrical engineers will tell you how much they hate dynamics but are stuck with it. mathematics comes in handy when sorting out algorithms for AIs and other complex programs. 1 Like |

No, you don't need to be good at mathematics to be a good programmer, but I can assure you. It helps to know your maths and have a mathematical mind to be a great programmer. I tell you this, because I don't wish to discourage you from learning programming. You can write a lot of programs without much mathematics, websites, mobile apps, etc. However, to develop software that truly makes an impact, some maths starts creeping in. You should not hate mathematics, see software development is a slight branch of applied mathematics, so by write code, you are doing some maths. Mathematics is all about problem solving in a logical manner, and that's exactly what software development is. If you wish to do anything in the following fields, such as analysing audio, 3D graphics, artificial intelligence, you will have to pick up some maths. So best of luck, start programming, and keep an open mind to learning the necessary math in the future if you find out that you need it. |

Being good at maths isn't compulsory, but writing a complex program has to do with Mathematical analysis since algo is a sure thing to do. If you really wanna be a bus stop Software Engineer you will need to start liking maths and even learn it at you leisure time. Best of Luck on your programming Journey. |

I'm horrible at math but I write decent programs |

tunezvic:It all depends on the project. Some project requires good thinking with better understanding of maths.
