Generally it is believed that women who lose their husbands, particularly when the men in question are considered too young to die, are responsible for their husbands’ ill fate, as such the woman is subjected to some dehumanising rituals.

Sometimes she is denied access to her husband’s belongings in the belief that the poor woman must have had a hand in the death of her husband because she had her eyes on his property.
