I.e

Example 1:
4-3(imaginary 3)=1
1+3(imaginary 3)=4

7+2(imaginary2)=9
9-2(imaginary 2)=7

The 1at the upper left multiplied by imaginary 2 . The answer added to the number in the middle.
This pattern works for the 2nd example.

516 / 2 = 258



NOTE: I was taught this before. I didn't come up with it.

SIMPLE

FIRST EXAMPLE

4 LEFT + 3 MIDDLE = 7 ON THE RIGHT

7 RIGHT + 3 MIDDLE = 9 ABOVE THE 7

3 MIDDLE + 1 BELOW - 3 ABOVE = 1 ON THE RIGHT.

cool EASY: 139 X 3 =417. Also 258 X 2 = 516
You can also view it as: 417/3=139 and 516/2=258.

Basically two sides of the same coin.

But why would one give such questions to primary 6 pupils? Or are basic 6 pupils now capable of multiplying 3 digits in their head? :/

First Pattern:

1, 2 (9-7), 3 (4-1), 4 (3+1) and 5 (3+3-1).
Essentially 1,2,3,4,5.

Follow this for the second pattern
1, 2 (8-6), 3 (5-2), 4 (2+2) and 5 (5+2-2)
