The résumé or CV is typically the first item that a potential employer encounters regarding the job seeker. Terminology-Curriculum vitae are Latin meaning "course of life" and résumé is French meaning "summary". In the business world, the word résumé (also spelled résumé and resume) is used especially in the United States and in English Canada. Curriculum vitae and "CV" are used in the United Kingdom in all contexts, with résumé having very little currency. In North America, Australia, and India the terms "résumé" and "CV" may be used interchangeably. However, a résumé more often has a free-form organizational style and is used for seeking employment in the private sector, whereas a curriculum vitae (also called a vita, but not curriculum vita, see below) usually has a more standardized look and format for the purpose of seeking positions in academic or educational institutions. Another difference is that a résumé tends to be more descriptive and tailored for a specific purpose or target audience, whereas curriculum vitae tends to be organized in a way that presents data about one's self in a compact fashion, with a clear chronology. For example, a résumé may begin with a statement about a personal goal, followed by a list of most significant accomplishments or characteristics in order of significance, while curriculum vitae often includes complete and unembellished lists of data such as educational institutions attended, degrees received, positions held, professional affiliations, publications authored, etc. A résumé may or may not be represented by the person as a complete history of themselves without omission, whereas a curriculum vitae usually implies that there are no omissions, and in particular, no temporal gaps. But a CV is the most flexible and convenient way to make applications. |

Resume is the US term for CV. There are slight differences in presentation between a resume and a cv. As the OP said check, bing is your friend www.bing.com |

Re: Any Difference Between CV And Resume? by folami86: 5:25am On Jun 20, 2009 |
Somewhat the same but isn’t. The differences are the length. A resume (french= a brief history) is shorter (1 or 2 pages) that gives concise information about the person’s education, skills and experiences. (employer is looking briefly at your qualifications A CV (Course of Life) is longer (2 or more pages) - more like a detailed resume of your education, skills and experiences. CV is mostly used by Computer Techs, scientists, doctors, professors, politicians and lawyers because they usually list projects, workshops, conferences, cases, research experiences, etc. A CV is like a biography of your career |

A CV is a detailed description of all your lifetime achievements - personal data, knowledge, skills, experience, qualifications, research, papers you've written, etc. You would usually submit a CV for a position in management or senior academia. There is no limit to the length of a CV as everything counts. CVs are usually reviewed in detail and all points taken into consideration. A resume is a highlight of your knowledge, experience and key achievements relevant to the position sought. This would be appropriate for contract jobs, IT jobs, banking jobs, etc. A resume typically is no more than 2 or 3 pages. A long resume may actually decrease the chances of getting the job if not well structured as recruiters typically have a lot of resumes to review and take a decision after reading the first page. |

Terminology use, that's what does two are. Far as I know, mean same because the same information being looked for by employers are contained therein. In oil and gas, we say crude when we mean oil or reservoir fluid. |

Re: Any Difference Between CV And Resume? by canachy(m): 11:03am On Jun 20, 2009 |
CV and Resume are similar but not the same. Take a good look at their difference 1. Resume must not exceed one page but CV can take up to four pages or more. 2. Resume comprises only three information namely: Education/Qualification, Work Experience and Skills while CV can include irrevant information like (awards, hobbies, publications, seminars/workshops attended etc). 3. Resume is a summary of CV. |

While no one is particularly right or wrong, need to clarify on some posters that Resume should be limited to 1 page while a CV can be more that 2 pages. As far as am concern in this my corporate world, I have used Resumes of more than 2 pages and still got the position and have also received detailed resumes of more than 2 pages resulting in my company hiring the individuals, To keep it simple, North America use Resume while the European nations prefer CV. I believed for ingenuity, tailored your Resume / CV to the desired positions, the goal is to get the job through whatever format is available. |

Re: Any Difference Between CV And Resume? by minute(f): 6:01pm On Jun 20, 2009 |
Resumes are more oriented towards use by people who have a solid work history that can be presented favourably in a linear fashion. A CV(Curriculum Vitae) is better suited to people who either have less experience in traditional jobs or who have jobs interspersed with Schooling, volounteer work or other relevant experience that is better presented in a free-form manner. |

Thanks for the tutorial on the difference between a Cv and resume. Basically, i think what nairalanders need is a comprehensive way on how to prepare a good C.v that would earn them a good job and not really a sermon on the difference between the two. With no offence intended, a comtempoary C.V or Resume as the case maybe (they are regarded as the same in this aprt of the world)now carries the idividual's passport (preferably coloured), and also, it's advisable to include awards received, positions held in previous palce of work or school as that has been as an an addded advantage to getting the job. Furthermore, Check out the Resume wizard samples in the latest Microsoft word document to serve as a guideline in preparing your own Curriculum Vitae. Most Pertinently, treat the interviews with utmost imporatnce; dress to suit the occasion and be ready to be tested academically, and otherwise! |

u guys should relax and read this Curriculum vitae is Latin meaning "course of life" and résumé is French meaning "summary". In the business world, the word résumé, also spelled resumé and resume, is used in the United States and in English Canada. Curriculum vitae and "CV" are used in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and New Zealand in all contexts, with résumé having very little currency. In many contexts, a résumé is short (usually one page), and therefore contains only experience directly relevant to a particular position. u won't hear Resume in Europe anyway and u won't hear CV in the US. PERIOD!!!!! |
