HRM King Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff was at 24 years old appointed the first Military Governor of Rivers State after it was created from part of the old Eastern Region. He held office from May 1967 until July 1975 during the military administration of General Yakubu Gowon. He was also a member of the Supreme Military Council. The 73-year-old king, who is the Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass in Bayelsa State, ascended the throne of his forefathers in 1996. An ardent golf player, HRM King Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff was recently spotted at the just-held Port Harcourt Polo Tournament. He is pictured here with the Emir of Katsina, HRH Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulmumini Kabir Usman (CFR).
