The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has suspended the director-general of the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, Peter Jack, for “misconduct unbecoming of a public officer of his cadre”.

Mr. Jack’s suspension, which takes effect from January 20, 2016, was contained in a statement by the Special Assistant on Media to Mr. Shittu, Victor Oluwadamilare, on Wednesday.

“The indefinite suspension became imperative on the strength of deluge of petitions regarding several alleged wrong-doings in NITDA and subsequent preliminary findings of an investigative committee set up by the Ministry,” the statement said.

According to the statement, some of the infractions identified by the investigative committee made up of three senior officials of the ministry, included illegal recruitment of additional staff totalling 245 within a spate of seven months.

“As at 29th May, 2015, NITDA only had a staff complement of 74.”

“But from May, 2015 to 31st December, 2015, additional 245 staff were employed in questionable circumstances, despite clear instruction from the ministry directing suspension of employment in the agency,” quoting from the committee’s report, the statement said.

The committee also said allegations of financial misdemeanour against Mr. Jack would require a more detailed professional auditing of NITDA’s finances.

He should also be investigated for the questionable way NITDA scholarships have been conducted during his time in office.

Right on time.The man was the one that awarded 80% of the job that was meant for the general public to few individuals.Jobs that are in Billions,"Madam there is God o"was the one that brought him and her office alone got more than 60% of that contract.Good decision.

i didn't know you knew NITDA was Patience Jonathan 's ATM. 80% of the Rural Telephony Center projects went straight to her pocket. NITDA kept re-advertizing the job year after year while awarding it to companies belonging to PEJ and her cronies

Not surprised at this revelation at all because GEJ and PEJ are very crude individuals who encouraged all around them to partake in a free-for-all that enriched a few massively to the detriment of Nigeria. No wonder PEJ was worried her husband would land in jail if Buhari took over. She knows how horribly they looted and abused Nigeria.

According to petition filed by a renowned Abuja Based Human Rights Activist, Constitutional lawyer and anti corruption crusader, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, exclusives obtained by NewsPunch.org, the current Director General of NITDA, Mr. Peter Jack, used his position to manipulate and fraudulently award 20 projects known as Community Access Centers valued at N15m each to companies known to belong to the former first lady, Mrs. Patience Goodluck Jonathan.

According to the petition; “…20 other projects designated as Knowledge Access Venues which contracts sums were at N24m each were similarly awarded to the former First Lady’s companies.”

“The total of these illegally awarded projects came to N780m. Even more galling is the fact that 40 out of 60 projects planned for nation-wide deployment, the afore-mentioned projects were all sited in Rivers state, which not coincidentally is the home state of the former First Lady and her protégé, Mr. Peter Jack, the Director General of NITDA.”

Why do we tribalise everything ? A wrong thing cant be made right by tribalism regardless who does it.
