Want to know the reason why there's high unemployment rate in Nigeria apart from corruption? It's because of the foolish pride of graduates! If such jobs existed in Nigeria and they were paying as much as those abroad, I can confidently say that most graduates would still refuse because of their ego. When I first landed abroad, I looked for all type of jobs but the economy was so bad even cleaner job was hard. My first job was a store greeter followed by a security guard followed by a floor technician(cleaner), all these jobs paid around minimum wage or a dollar above per hour but I was so happy because I was no longer a liability. It was through the cleaning job the administrator of the company recommended me for a position in the business office, fast forward a couple of years, a couple of degrees and the rest is history. Humble beginnings are only annoying to those who live on the island of delusion! 33 Likes 4 Shares |

While these jobs aren't of dignified status, it takes an ignorant person to talk them down. It is common for the average Nigerian to say "instead of XYZ, I no go dey where I dey?" Sure, certain occupations are less desirable, particularly to educated people. However, if the alternative is crime or being a financial leech on someone else, then you're irresponsible. Some of those "annoying jobs," like the security guards earn up to $5,000/month. Last I checked, that is over 1 million Naira a month. Most importantly, they're making an honest living. Sometimes people who don't live in the US, and have never visited imagine they know how things work out here. The average Nigerian would constantly say "for US ehn.." The OP sounds like someone with no world exposure, work experience and or financial experience. Yes, these jobs should not be first choices for educated people. However, an attempt to ridicule any human making an honest living is naivete. 12 Likes 1 Share |

Baseless post.I wonder y this trash made FP.most of the jobs he posted are receiving salaries worth more than what Nigerian bankers are taking home at the end of the month. Any legitimate work should be encouraged and not looked down upon. They do those jobs and still take care of their financial needs. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

If you are new to the US please do not listen to the OP. One of the factors recruiters consider is your ability to hold a job, it does not matter what type of job. Do you know why some fresh graduates are not offered employment? The reason is because they do not have any work experience. Take for instance a fresh graduate of biology, with phlebotomist experience (although a low paying job $13/hr), you will be considered first in a medical laboratory jobs opportunity than your peers who do not have such experience. So, among the reasons for taking up what OP considers "annoying jobs" is for one to have job history and also get some level of exposure as an immigrant while paying your bills. Some people may not be aware that some employers would check you credit history to ascertain if one is living a responsible and balanced life style before they can employ the individual. In a situation where you never had a job, how do you build the credit or job history? People just have to start somewhere but it might not be very comfortable at first, so do not forsake the days of little beginning. The bottom-line is that in abroad, people do not have a choice than to live an independent life. 6 Likes 1 Share |
