A friend of mine was called at a place he submitted his CV, in the course of the discussion he asked for salary expectation, the lady said she will get back to him.
Some days later he called her and she told him he disqualified himself for asking that question. Is he wrong to have asked that question?

It depends on the time he asked that question.. Was it during the interview conversations or just at the end of the interview?

He may have honest reasons to have axd the question. The issue was the picture he might hv painted when he axd the question.

To me it looked like he was after the pay than getting the job.

At times its best you allow things play out by themselves.

PS
He should have made enquiries abt the firm before going for the interview

Yes he was wrong.

There is time for everything, and your friend did the wrong thing at the wrong time.

You don't ask a potential employer about money, wait for them to bring up the issue. Only when you are very sure of being hired should you do so, even at that you need to be very careful not to come off as too money conscious.

It is just the first call he received from the firm,
though he is working on 60k salary, that's y he asked so he knows if it is worth it

Is it because he lost the job everyone is condemning his action? Or is actually wrong? Let's look at it this way, the guy wants to be sure not to loose his job for another opportunity that may end up to not worthing it, is it not better than doing the interview and everything and after he has being told the salary he turns them down?
