Saraki Intervenes in NULGE, NUT Dispute With Kwara Govt

President of the Senate, Senator Abubakar  Bukola Saraki at the weekend in Ilorin,  met with the leadership of Labour Unions in Kwara State on the need to resolve the on-going teacher’s strike in the state.

Senator Saraki during the meeting appealed to leaders of the Labour Unions to call off their strike and return to work in the interest of students, pupils and the people of the state in general.



He told them that primary education is the foundation of children and all hands must be on deck to ensure it is not jeopardised.

Saraki further urged the leadership of  the workers’ union to cooperate with the state government in the efforts to amicably resolve all pending issues on which both sides disagree.

The Senate President also expressed his appreciation to the labour leaders and traditional rulers for their promise to co-operate with the state government in carrying out a comprehensive biometric exercise that will aid adequate planning in the future.

Saraki also praised the royal fathers for their timely intervention aimed at resolving the dispute between the state government and the workers while also commending those present at the meeting for honouring his invitation at short notice.

In their response,  the labour leaders appreciated  Saraki’s style of leadership, his commitment to their welfare and the decision to intervene on their dispute  with the state government.
The labour Unions also promised to quickly resolve the issues on which they disagreed  with the state government and resume work as the government has promised to pay part of the salary arrears owed the teachers.

The labour leaders also promised to ensure that normalcy is restored in the primary education sector in the state‎. They noted that the meeting with the Senate President was not only timely but useful in creating amicable working relationship between the state government and its workers
