Meaning Of African Poetry. by RemenZack(f): 5:31am On Jan 25, 2016 |
P.S - www.remenzack.com is thoroughly responsible for any of her posts linked here on Nairaland. African Poetry has no definite definition but it is widely known for its much complaint about Wars, Hunger, Killings, General Violence and the shame of being and staying an Underdeveloped nation, after so many years of Development. African Poetry is also known for its not so much appreciated gesture about the influence of the White Man and his culture. Even with the fact that they bestowed us with Religion, Clothing and so much other means of Development, African Poetry never appreciates the pros of Colonialism. African Poetry is as well known for the disappointments and cons of the Black leaders and their loopholes. They portray them very hungry for money, fame and power. They are tagged Megalomaniacs, giving us they impression of most of them pot-bellied and repulsive looking. Lastly, African Poetry has the best of metaphors when describing the worst of the worst in the Society. Popular African Poets including Gbemisola Adeoti, Sola Owonobi, Gabriel Okara, Jared Angira, Sly Cheney-Coker etc. They are also blessed with the talent of passing out Euphemism every now and then through their various Poem pieces. African Poetry is one of a kind, only truly known by African Poets. None other could ever understand the 'dos and donts' when it comes to African Poetry like African Poets do. 3 Likes
