Cleric killed, doctor, policeman injured as robbers invade Ekiti police station


The man who was shot dead is said to be a cleric while a police sergeant and a medical doctor were injured in the attack.

The medical doctor was at the Ikole Police Area Command to attend to a patient when the incident occurred.


The hoodlums were made unsuccessful attempt to break into the armoury in the police division and in the process “leveled the building,” Daily Trust learnt.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti Police Command, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying it was an attempt by the suspected armed robbers to steal arms and ammunition.

Adeyemi told our correspondent on the telephone that the suspects were believed to have come from the South South axis of the country. He said the command has launched a manhunt with the aim of bringing the suspects to book.

He commiserated with the dead and the injured in the incident and urged residents of the area not to panic saying, "the Commissioner of Police in the state has set a machinery in motion to ensure there's no re-occurence while investigation into the incident has commence.”

It is very very true. I stayed in the town. It was Fulani herdsmen that attacked the station to release one of them. There was heavy gun shooting for almost two hours yesterday. One pastor was killed. He was travelling to neighbouring town that night. There were police moving around this evening in their armour tank. Even First bank didn't open today. The attack was done on Area Command office of police.

Sir, ur version of d story is totally wrong. D only thing dat u are right about I dat they came. But pls take note, dey dint cone to release anyone. They came to steal weapons!!! Of which they were abke to go away with 6 to 7 police rifles.

U are right about d clergy man dey killed, right about the armoured tank n also right about the sporadic gun shots but it wasnt for 2 hours, was for an hour n about 15minutes
