The Touching Story Of A Nairalander: Please Don't Ignore. by OhimaiTours: 12:00pm On Jan 28, 2016
Hello everyone,
I really don't know if this is the right section for this post, but please do pardon me and be rest assured that I truly appreciate you for taking your time to read this.

I am a young man of 32years from Edo State, still unmarried and seem trapped with my parents. Honestly I don't know what is happening because I am someone that wants to be on his own and hustle right but my parents seem very sad about such decision.

I am a Law graduate from a reputable private university in Nigeria and I come from a decent and very comfortable family were everything is given to us as we ask. The problem of my up bringing was that I became so careless about life and spending and I wasn't really focused in school anymore because I was just making and spending money carelessly. Because of my behavior back then, my parents had to send me oversea to study but honestly speaking I dropped out and preferred street hustle. Though I regretted it much later, I appreciated the fact that I learned alot while doing street hustle in terms of having good communication skills and being very good in sales & marketing jobs.

After some years of not really achieving anything meaningful overseas, my parents insisted I come back to Nigeria to get a degree and that was when I did and was put in a private university were I humbled myself and fought for an LLB in Law but haven't yet gone for my BL at the Nigerian Law School.

Now I regret all my past mistakes and I know how matured I am especially seeing alot of my old friends married with kids and moving on with life in various ways. I am not actually jealous per say because some of them are still kinda hustling to make ends meet and I admire their ability to become independent and raise their own family.

I have told my parents that I want to leave and at least go and get myself something doing and start up my own family, though they seem unhappy about it, I know it's for the better and I will always want to achieve more than they have achieved and take care of them even though they keep acting like they are very comfortable and don't really need anything from us the kids and they even prefer supporting us even in our matrimonial homes.

Please all I need is a good Samaritan in this forum who can help me with a good job and one that can probably come with accommodation at least to start off and become a real independent man. I am smart, a good listener and fast learner. I am someone that can adapt to any situation and conditions. No matter the job that can set me on motion, I am willing to be focused and build a career for myself and prove to my parents that I can become an achiever and make them proud.

I will be very grateful if someone here can take me as a friend and help me because in this life I believe one good turn deserves another and so your help to me might be a blessing in disguise, one can never know.

I really appreciate you for giving your time to read this my write up and I know God will surely reward you for either helping me out or even putting someone like me you don't even know in your prayers.

Thank you so much and have blessed days ahead of you.

You are getting it wrong bro, I handle all the responsibilities at home. Am in charge of everything and I have workers under my payroll. The problem is am not being given the chance to make my own money and focus on a career of my choice.

They just don't want me to be away from them cus they getting old and am the first child. I don't know what they are scared of but I have practically decided to move away and settle down but not to abandon them. Probably be visiting them regularly to ensure they are fine.

Am definitely overseeing a table water factory which they setup. Popsy is retired from one of the big oil companies and is pension is above 500k a month so he always claims he is OK and very comfortable.
Honestly, running the water factory isn't so bad and it's doing great. My kid brother is about to finish uni and I will love to see him overlook the business at least to keep himself busy after uni.

My passion is so much in travel and tourism which is what I want to really build a career in. I believe success comes only when someone does or work with what he/she has a passion for.

Am not an ajebutter bro, I have seen life in different dimensions. Guess God just blessed my parents at a point in our lives.
All I need is someone that can help me or connect me with a good job especially in the travel and tourism sector. I have really great ideas for the future in this sector but I want to work closely with someone already in the sector to learn more first and then start bringing all my ideas to the lime light.

Mr Op whether you're a graduate or not it doesn't mean you cannot be successful in whatever you set out to to

Let me ask you a question

Is dangote a graduate? Yet he employs graduates
Is sunny ade a graduate

I can go on and on.whether you quit school or not is not an issue.what value do you have to offer your immediate community
I'm glad you claim you're street smart.start up a small buisness and watch it grow with commitment and dedication

Dangote doesn't have two heads.he's not better than you he was just a commonsensical man who took advantage of opportunity all the best

This story no be here. OP you have been running your parents company yet you don't have enough saved to move out and get an apartment of your own?

You are a law graduate but yet to go to bar yet you are not saying anything about doing that?

To get a job is not something you need to come to nairaland to beg for help for. You said you are interested in tourism, well there are many travel agencies out there that you can easily apply to.

I smell something fishy...

There is nothing fishy if you can really understand what I am saying.
I am not complaining I need money to get an apartment of my own. I rented an apartment in games village in Abuja and my parents weren't happy with me being far from them. I had to come back close to them for a while but they feel bad anytime I mentioned I want to go back to Abuja.

Yes I have my LLB in Law but am really not keen in practising so that's why am now ready to go do that hectic reading in Law school now.

My reason for coming on this forum is because I have seen people comment on how they got jobs here and being a large forum I am confident that I can meet someone who will assist me in the right way.

Nothing is fishy about me or what I am doing here, I am making applications also but like the saying goes, spread your wings and don't put all eggs in one basket.

I will advice that you set a goal for yourself first. this is Jan what do you have interest in doing, where and what do you need to get it done is finance. so try and save money to get your own apartment first while still working for your father, get money to start your startup viz and am sure your father will be of good cheer to help you once he sees the serious ness in you and the ability display to be yourself. thanks

Madam I didn't say my parents have companies, we have just a table water factory. My dad and mum are retired now and the factory was opened for us the children.

I am not saying I want to disassociate myself from the factory, I want to explore the area I have a passion for which is travel and tourism.

Personally on my own, I have two cars I have put into airport transfer Service in Benin City and though it's quite new now, with the amount of hotels in Benin and the number of visitors coming in from the airport daily, I believe the business will grow.

Lately I believe you used the wrong choice of words by saying am looking for who to quat with. There are some jobs that come with accommodation and I put that as an option because I the job is in Lagos and I have to relocate to Lagos, definitely I need somewhere to stay close to work before I can settle in an get my own place.

If not for the passion I have in exploring new places, I would not have had any problem just settling down in Benin City.

You are not yet ready to be independent if you're waiting for someone to give you a job and accommodation here.

GROW UP!!!

In another way, why not think of establishing another form of biz like been diversify into another thing that will bring more money and your have a written documents to make you the largest shareholder with your dads company. instead of you running away like a prodigal son in the bible. brother with your LLB think of how to leverage with your parent.

Thanks for the advice. My passion is in travel and tourism. I will like to at least gain much more experience in the industry by working closely with someone already in it before I can then decide to stand on my own.

I feel it won't be wise for me to just put money into setting up a travel and tourism company without having a proper knowledge of what it really entails

Honestly nothing really. I am not so keen on practicing so I want to pursue my passion for travel and tourism. Hopefully I can apply for Law school if the need arises because I had a second class upper in my LLB

going to law school doesnt mean you will practice law, or that you cant pursue other career interests.

moreso you are still unsure where your interests lie.

I just stated were my interest is sir. I honestly want to focus in travel and tourism. I know going to Law school would not really affect anything I want to do later but I truly don't want to do Law school now.

is law school supposed to be optional?

you have still not said what exactly your reason is for not going, was your school accredited?

Yes sure my school is very much accredited. I was listed for law school the year I graduated but I didn't go ahead with it. Actually to some people it might not seem like a good decision but I vividly know I am not ready for it.

I know people who went and didn't make it, some twice now and it's hurting knowing how much money and effort put into it and I know am not even ready so why waste the time and money.

my point is law school is considered part of the law education especially in Nigeria, if you are outside the country that is a different matter.

so, your reasons for not going to law school seem very spurious and makes one wonder why you dont know law school is not supposed to be considered optional.

I know for sure law school is very important for any one in the legal profession. I am not disputing that sir and am also not saying I ignorant of that fact.
Everyone has a passion for something in life, I discovered my love for travel and tourism while I was outside the country but I did this law to fulfill all righteousness as my parents really wanted me to do the law since when I was young.
