The flash from a camera has helped in saving the life of a 4 month old baby boy from Scottsdale, Arizona named Ryder Temarantz.

The baby's mother, Andrea Temarantz, was interviewed by ABC NEWS and she revealed that whenever she takes a photo of her child, there's always a white glow in his left eye. At first she shrugged it off as a fault from the camera but even when she got a new Nikon D3300 DSLR, the glow was still there. This got her concerned and she took her son to see a doctor along with her husband. He was then diagnosed with retinoblastoma (a cancer of the eye), in that left eye.

Thanks to the camera flash, she wouldn't have noticed it in time.

According to Dr. David H. Abramson, chief of the Ophthalmic Oncology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering, the tumor in Ryder's left eye has not spread to other critical organs of his body, such as his brain,

"Worldwide, 50 percent of the children who had retinoblastoma last year died," Abramson told ABC News today. "It's one of those cancers that can be fatal if not detected early, so it's great that his mom noticed it early and got it checked out."
He said Ryder has a 99 percent chance of recovering from the cancer and will still have some vision in his left eye.
