Nigerian youngsters Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze have been pictured with Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis.

The pair, 17 and 16 respectively, are in advanced talks with Arsenal but Wenger confirmed on Firday 'work permit issues' were holding up confirmation of the transfers.

The Gunners refused to confirm to Standard Sport whether the players were undergoing medicals last night but pictures which later surfaced on social media suggested the deals were close.


Both Nwakali and Chukwueze were identified by Arsenal during last year's Fifa Under-17 World Cup - which Nigeria won - and are considered future stars, but will not be hurried into Wenger's first-team set-up.

Nwakali was named player of the tournament as Nigeria lifted the youth trophy and his arrival, along with Chukwueze, would mark Wenger's final business this transfer window.

"I am going to Arsenal to work and try to be the best I can," Nwakali told the Nigerian Tribune this week.

"With God anything is possible, to work hard to justify my claim for first team football."
