Italian government has expressed the conviction that
Nigeria will emerge one of the most powerful countries
of the world under the administration of President
Muhammadu Buhari.
Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi made the remarks
while speaking to State House correspondents
yesterday after meeting behind closed-doors with
Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. He emphasised that President Buhari’s leadership was
important to Italy and his country was in total support
of the ongoing anti-corruption war of the government.
Describing Nigeria as a very important partner of Italy
in Africa, Renzi also expressed his country support to
Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
Renzi said he and Buhari discussed how to foster both
countries’ cooperation in the areas of security, energy,
infrastructure, agriculture and small and medium
enterprise.
Later, Senior Special Assistant to the President on
Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu said in a
statement that Nigerian and Italian governments
yesterday signed an agreement on intelligence sharing,
capacity building and provision of logistics to enhance
the operations of the Nigeria Police.
He said the signing of agreement, witnessed by Buhari
and Renzi, was part of bilateral meeting between both
countries on energy, security, agriculture, immigration,
human and drug trafficking, infrastructure and
education.
Shehu said the agreement on enhancing cooperation
between the Nigerian and Italian Police was signed by
the Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase and the
Italian National Police Chief Alessandro Pansa.
