OgunNewsFact:
This governor, OGD, touched our lives
"As Ogun State clocks 40, while wishing the sons, daughters and residents of the State well, it would be incomplete if one does not say something on the administration of the longest served Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel who for 8years opened up the once upon a time civil service State to a growing economic hub".
"One of the major cardinal points of OGD administration was to liberate and empower Ogun people through human capital development and massive employment opportunities which laid an everlasting basic foundation towards the development of the State".
Those were the words of some Ogun State Youth who came to present a portrait to acknowledge the good works of Otunba Gbenga Daniel during his 8 years as the governor of Ogun State.
The Youth under the aegis of " Ogun Youth for good governance" enumerated the projects below as some of the Laudable programmes and projects that touched the people of Ogun State directly.
1. OGEGEP- Ogun State employment generation Programme, trained people in various vocational and agricultural activities, supporting them with facilities and engaging them.
2. HUCAP- Human Capital Development, provided educational scholarship for training abroad.
3. Teaching Service Employment Scheme, employed a high percentage of professionals into the teaching service.
4. TRACE Employment generation drive, created the opportunity to employ qualified people to operate a state traffic control agency.
5. OGRUMED- Ogun State rural Medical services for free treatment of ailment and surgery
6. OSAMCA Ogun State Micro Credit Agency for loan facilities to develop SMEs
7. OGSEP - Ogun State Electrification Project
8. OGROMA- Ogun State road maintenance agency , a self dependent and reliant process of road rehabilitation and construction by indigenous professionals forestalling capital flight, and creating a training period, experience gathering, cost effective projects and employment opportunities.
9. The 3Stadia built was embarked upon to create job opportunities for indigenous contractors and majorly develop sporting activities in the state. No doubt, sport is a great way of earning money for the state.
10. The mini power plant is an alternate source of power generation meant to complement supply by the PHCN. Out of the 20 mini power plants only one was powered due to lack of funds, till date it is still in use at Oke-Imosan.
11. Taye Solarin University of Education, TASUED, the 1st University of Education in Nigeria created employment opportunities, admission opportunities and improved teacher Education.
12. ICT Polytechnics, were established to mop up youth that could not gain admission and prepare them to be ICT compliant towards meeting the needs of the State.
13. 3 Free trade zones which include Olokola FTZ, Kajola Ftz and Ogun Quandong FTZ igbesa
14. Trailer Parks
15. Long term projects like the Deep sea Port, Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas OKLNG, Cargo Airport, Refinery, etc
Many others too numerous to mention.

Yes,he touched our lives. Is it the tasued, the 3 stadia, the massive employment? Or the conducive environment for the private participators? OGD remains one of the best thing to happen to ogun State. I am a living witness today!!! Let haters and paid agents go and hug transformer

All the current government has been doing is bridges that lead to nowhere. OGD encouraged private participators, local content and all his programs were geared towards job creation. This man call OGD really touched our lives.

OGD tried in his first term, the second term 2007-2011 coincided with the global economic melt down when many countries were witnessing economic recession our Nigeria inclusive, meanwhile many states were surviving with long term loans and bonds, but no thanks to the coalition of forces including the incumbent Governor sponsoring the members of the OGHA to pass the counterproductive Resolution 167 that barred many financial institutions from extending facilities to the Ogun Government. Despite the pay cut his cabinet members volunteered, yet they still found it difficult to meet up with many fiscal responsibilities courtesy the unpopular resolution from the OGHA. Understandably some ongoing projects were uncompleted, yet he was still able to make some considerable impacts......Let's give it to him.

All said and done, I think it is imperative for us to know that the quality of a good leader is for him or her to plan for the future in other to touch many life's. That is one thing I cannot take away from OGD because he his a clairvoyant leader. His plan for future economy growth to be able to compete with Lagos i.e Olokola FTZ, OkLNG, Deep seaport, Cargo Airport, Oni petrol-Chemical Institute to carter for Dangote Petrochemical Fertiliser refinery that was moved to Ibeju Leke because lack of the present administration to create an access road; all has been licenced a year b4 his tenure expired and it took about three years to get that licence. In terms of infrastructure that is of economic value cannot to be noon i.e the stadia build to host junior world cup, opening of rural roads e.t.c

@Kingwax; are you aware that the latest NUC rating still rated your so called ineptitude TASUED far above Olabisi Onabanjo University? Rather than hatred induced criticism, learn to appreciate good strides.

no be only NUC.

TASUED bawo. Besides, its jes for political points. It is clearly not needed. Did u knw how much he owed those schools in terms of salaries and disbursements?

It is impossible for the state to budget millions every year for these mini schools that acted as real standard universities.

TAAUED is supposed to be under OOU, and the college of education is supposed to be a college of education.

Mind u, I was never an indigene of ijebu, neither was I a student of OOU.

When we talk we should always try to be sincere , factual and unbiased in our analysis, you also need not be myopic in your analysis of issues or are you one of the paid agents running propaganda to destroy OGD? Even with your many propaganda to destroy the man the people are wise enough to know how they were touched by a government with human face.

1. The need to improve on the quality of teacher's education in Nigeria made TASUED a necessity. Teachers are trained mainly in colleges thus an upgrade to professionally train teachers in a specialised institution gave birth to TASUED as the first university of Education in Nigeria. You would agree with me that improving the education of teachers would improve the quality of education dished out to their students.

2. Even as at now, the available higher institutions can not cater for the admission of secondary school leavers thus the need to have more institutions that can always be improved upon andd upgraded to a befitting standard. Tasued has assisted in the last 10years mopping up a large number of secondary school leavers who would not have gained admission. Most of these people who ought to be roaming the streets are now graduates contributing their quota to the development of Nigeria.

3. The process of constructing the structural buildings, purchases, hiring of lecturers and non teaching staff created employment opportunities for our people and also improved the economy of our people.

4. "Did u knw how much he owed those schools in terms of salaries and disbursements?", it would be like that when the incumbent state government since inception refused to put any kobo
In the institution yet the institution have survived till date.

5. How can Tasued be under OOU looking at the points above? Do you want OOU to be unnecessarily choked? Tasued can be supported by all and sundry not pull down, afterall it belongs to Ogun State.

For that statement and those who liked the comment, I want to ask you, was it OGD kidnapping? Were those false stories confirmed or mere politics? Has killing and rituals stopped?

Yours truly would quickly remind you and put it to you that it was during this administration that

1. A lady was found in Olomore junction with part of her flesh cut off? True or false?

2. At Fowobi area of Onikolobo about 2months ago a Mapoly Student was shot in broad day light? True or false?

3. About a year ago, a guy named Kuti was arrested at the popular Ojude Oba and he confessed to killing about 50 ppl in Ogun? True or False

4. At Elega another guy was killed, if you have not forgotten some about 2months witnessed the death of a guy in this same area

5. What happened to the killing of 3people in Ijebu Ode which included a barber?

7. A former LG Chairman Toyin Hamzat was killed in Sagamu.

8. Vigilante members killed 2innocent people at the Agbeloba Area of Abeokuta while sleeping peacefully in their house, leaving one in serious injury.

9. VIO boss killed in Abeokuta

10. Baby factory spotted in Adigbe

11. Sango Ota witnessed ppl selling parts of humans

Enough for now but can you deny any of these? Since opposition did not overblow it can anyone say these are not real?

Yet, it is only the security agencies that can say the right thing looking at the reported statistics in their kitty

If there is anybody who lives in Ogun between 2003 - 2011 and come here to tag the man who ran government then as doing nothing? Then, such a person is either being mischevous or economical with the truth.

As a living witness, OGD. Touched our lives and his projects is till doing same after leaving office.

* The dualisation of Lalubu road opened up that axis and further spur business growth and expansion. Lives thriving there as we speak.

* Youths that were vigourously trained in (OGEGEP). agriculture and allied vocations are today independent and not dependant on their parents. They are now a major contributor to the state economy.

* I also recalled vividly how OGRUMED touched lives, saved souls, places smiles on peoples face and restored lost hopes and dreams.

I wonder how lives can further be touched.
