PORT HARCOURT—Regional Transmission Manager of Power Holding Company of Nigeria in Port Harcourt, Mr. Luis. E. Eromosele, has identified corruption as one of the major factors that have made it impossible for PHCN to provide the nation with uninterrupted and regular power supply.
According to him, “the effect of corruption in socio-economic life of Nigeria is seen in the decay of almost all the social and economic infrastructure, political instability and degraded human resources.

According to him, “the effect of corruption in socio-economic life of Nigeria is seen in the decay of almost all the social and economic infrastructure, political instability and degraded human resources.

Engineer Eromosele, who spoke in Port Harcourt yesterday during the inauguration of the Port Harcourt anti corruption committee of the PHCN, regretted the branding of the PHCN by some outfits in the country as one of the most corrupt public institutions in the country.

He, however, said the institution had taken actions to redress this image with the setting up of an anti-corruption and transparency unit within its fold.

According to him, “the effect of corruption in socio-economic life of Nigeria is seen in the decay of almost all the social and economic infrastructure, political instability and degraded human resources. This has manifested in our inability to give a steady uninterrupted and reliable power supply.

“We must not fail to realize the serious implication of the ranking of our company as one of the most conspicuously corrupt enterprise in Nigeria. The need to change this public perception of the company is therefore imperative.

The crusade being lunched here in Port Harcourt is a house cleaning exercise aimed at exposing corrupt practices and corrupt staff”

He described the birth of the anti-corruption agency within the power sector of the country as an in-house cleansing exercise aimed at exposing corrupt practices and bad eggs, adding that staff should key into the new drive.

In his remark, the Managing Director, Power Holding Company of Nigeria, who was represented by Mr. Lysian Pepple, said the firm had become zero tolerant to corruption.

The anti corruption committee, he noted, would operate in all the distribution and transmission/ generation units of the firm round the country.

The Managing Director explained that the reform was mainly to ensure proper repositioning of all sectors of the power industry so that they could be well alive to their duties.

On the issue of corruption relating to power/electricity

CORRUPTION IS EVERYWHERE

1. LEADERSHIP - from President to House member, they even steal monies from probe.

2. PHCN - they steal equipment, defraud the organisation, bill customers for powers they never use, they don't supply power

3. FOLLOWERS /ORDINARY PEOPLE/CONSUMERS - consumer's sometimes don't like to pay bills, tap electricity or illegal connection

I hope you guys can see the scale of the problem. Nothwithstanding, it is the business of the leadership to press reset button for a fresh and honest beginnings. unfortunately they are too busy distributing money via REBRANDING AND REPACKAGING. It is our leaders who need to be rebranded first, then the followers can be repackaged

' IF YOU PUT LIPSTICK ON A PIG IT IS STILL A PIG'

Corruption start and end with our leaders, they need to demonstrate good and credible examples.

NIGERIA, GOOD PEOPLE, GREAT NATION, AWFUL LEADERSHIP

Will God ever hear our prayers , our cry cry in a state of quagmire, to wipe away the generation of the present leaders and give us a new re-birth, new hope.

We have failed leaders, but lets all hope that the generations of our children children will not go through what we are going today,

Lets hope that one day a wind of change will blow and CHANGE will come

And a reedemer will emerge to salvage us from CORRUPTION that has found it's root in the heart ofour leaders.

PHCN, does that name exist anymore?? the more you look, the less you see

These vanguard editors and reporters are just dumb. Who doesn't know corruption is our problem everywhere and they are reporting it like Hot news. Soon they'd say Yar'adua is confused, as if we don't know!

PHCN , NEPA or whatever they call themselves is the most corrupt institution in Nigeria, worse than the police its just that we do not get to encounter them as much as we encounter the police. Anybody who buys a transformer in Nigeria today will pay through his nose to have it hooked to Nepa/Phcn despite the fact that they cannot give the community transformer they will ask you for bribe depending on who is applying (individual or corporate) to install it.

Crazy people somebody better tell Mr. Yar'Adua that until we have electricity in this country nothing absolutely nothing will work all the meetings, conferences, summit, and whatever is all in vain if PHCN does not work

Tell them

Guys, there is a simple Fix to it, they all know it but dont wanna cos it will be bad market for them, they should do to it what they did to NITEL or rather the telcomunication Industry, they have started it, so when ther ar choice of suppliers we will see what happens. at least, if network go off on MTN, you dont ned to remind them to go fix it, they do it auto cos if not we go crosss over to Glo abi
Re: Phcn Blames Failure On Corruption by Rams(m): 2:01am On Jul 03, 2009
This is all empty talk from Mr. Eromosele.  Is there anyone that didn't know this before?  You can pick any sector/ministry of government in Nigeria and blame corruption for its demise. You will be right and it won't shock anyone.

If he wants to do something, he should start point fingers at the corrupt officials.  They should start naming names and bringing thieves to justice.

Darkness is a part of our ecosystem, just like malaria. The practice of voodoo and black magic is so high that our so call leaders whom obviously are the beneficiaries would do everything in their power to prevent light from revealing their acts, lets face it, darkness and malaria have come to stay cool
