The immediate past Senate President, David Mark, has
said that the growing interest of his people and
endorsements by various stakeholders ahead of the
February 20 rerun for Benue-South senatorial district,
have made him psychologically prepared.
Mark, in a statement by his Media Assistant, Paul
Mumeh, on Sunday, also said he was overwhelmed by
the uncommon support of his constituents which he
said encouraged him to contest the election.
The former senate president is contesting the rerun
against Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress.
Mark promised to serve and defend the interest of his
people at all times no matter the odds and
circumstance.
“I am psychologically prepared for the rerun election
based on the growing support of my constituents. I
enjoy the support and confidence of my people. With
God helping us, I will not let them down, I will serve
creditably. I am very committed to the development of
Benue South and beyond,” the statement quoted Mark
as saying.
The former senate president said his confidence was
anchored on God and on the overwhelming support of
his people who see him as a symbol of their hopes and
aspirations.
According to him, the forthcoming rerun is a battle for
the interest and survival of the Idoma people which he
represents.
The statement claimed that the Peoples Democratic
Party Senate caucus, the Benue State House of
Representatives caucus, Benue State Zone C House of
Assembly caucus, the league of Idoma professors and
other groups have separately thrown their weights
behind Mark for the rerun.
The statement added that the various groups were
supporting Mark based on his achievements in the
Benue-South senatorial district and his antecedents of
effective and quality representation in the National
Assembly.
It also stated that a former chairman of the board of
the Nigeria Television Authority, Chief Patrick Ogbu,
said that the Idoma people have come to the
realisation that the gang up against Mark by external
forces was actually a conspiracy against the zone.
He said, “No campaign of calumny can stop the Idoma
dream. The re-election of Mark is a battle for Idoma
survival as a people which no outsider should decide
for them.”
