Go and read your history book well this how it happened

Yorubas are conquered by Oba of Bini son Oduduwa, The Binin prince Oduduwa which is the son of Oba of Benin conquered yourubas and yourubas refer to him as god which fall down from haven with rooster and palm fruits. Yorubas are slaves to Binin kingdom, the name Oba is a Bini name and word and Eko is a Bini word, The Binis also conquered Aworis and Eguns in Lagos and gave it the name Eko before yorubas started migrating to Lagos. Prince Eze Chima of Onitcha kingdom is one of the biggest allies of Binin Kingdom,he help Binis in their conquest.
at one point the Benin people will say oduduwa has no connection with Benin and your own version is even hilarious, all I know is that your people are trying to rewrite your story is good for you anyway.......I still maintain my stand, Benin should stop using OBA because it is purely from Yoruba language.

The same Yoruba obas Tinubu said are useless except for one or two?

The ones who collected bribe from Abacha and sold Abiola?

The same obas who beg for nomination from politicians before they are elected obas? Common !

No Yoruba Oba is worth a toilet paper, anyone one with d right backing and finance can ascend any of the two kobo throne in yooribaa land.

Ya'all claim Oba must get approval from Ife right and ask from who? The kneeling Ooni?

Even AjayiCrowther stated that the origin of Yoorooba is distorted and an identity must be given to those without one. Hence the name Yoruba which is derogotory was adopted from Usman Bello's book.

Fact is Benin gave Ododuwa to Ife. So whatever returned from Ife was originally BENIN.

My own analysis from Benin history is guess work while your own spurious claims are gospel truth, right? tongue grin

Obviously you were the midwife who attended to Ododuwa's mother in labour, and you should know the truth authoritatively. tongue

Dude, no ogboju tactics will work here.

You have your history, Benin have theirs and will remain so till the end of time.
All you have just done is to rant than provide evidence to back up claim that bini lost bastard was Oduduwa!
Since no bini has been able to provide it, then we can all say those are just dog's poo! Same way there haven't been any evidence to show bini was an empire as opposed to the Yorubas cutting across the West to Togo and Benin replublic!

That shows your historical shallowness.

The first Ogiso of Igodomigodo (old name of Edo/Benin) was Oba-godo, by about 40BC. Among other titles.

There is also poor education system in 9ja that gives very shallow education. Hence the comments some make here lack depth & analysis.

Benin, Yoruba, Igbo, Fon, Ewe, etc are East Kwa/Volta-Benue branch of Niger-Congo language family. Simple philology. No, I'm no philologist or classicist or linguist per se.

In a place with quality education, amidst dissecting bodies, clinics etc, I had enough motivation gain an arts qualification alongside: philosophy, ethics, theology, languages and others covered.

Oba in Edo & Yoruba, and Obi in Igbo is co-incidence. Though in the distant past, Niger-Congo languages come from a proto language with certain words preserved.

Amen in all three languages are similar too: Ise, ase, ise!

@Post,

Have you heard about Oromo people? They are also called Oromifaa. Oduduwa did not come from Bini. Oduduwa came from Axum or Aksum in Ancient Abyssinia, known today as Ethiopia. The Oromifaa people are Cushites and their ancestral home is Aksum, they are in the Aramaic group of languages. They share a very similar culture with the Egyptians.

In fact it is believed that Aksum itself was settled by Jews escaping persecution from Egypt, they went on exodus and rested at Aksum as their final home. Of course this was at a time in their history when they did not even know where home was and wherever they found solace and hospitality, there was home.

Here are few pointers to draw on the background:

1. The Ife obelisk is considered an evidence of the spiritual connection between Ife and Aksum
2. The terra cotta of the Ife Head is seen as a production from different times but without doubt the creation of a single consciousness with cast heads excavated from tombs of the Kings in Memphis, Egypt.
3. Cults and Ritual practices are symmetrical between Ife and Egypt. Some of their deities bear resembling names (example - Yamm is the god of the sea in Egypt. Yemoja is the goddess of the sea in Yoruba)
4. Name semblance (example - Akhen ; Akin. Binis also share in this name semblance - Aken.)

Anyway, read more on these stuffs and the dots wil begin to connect for your understanding.
That's one.

@Post,
In trying to understand who Oduduwa was and where he originated from, here are some questions that will assist the research:

3. Obelisks were erected as dedicated structures to the worship of the deities. Its use in ritual practice  is exclusive to only two of world civilizations (Egyptian and Ethiopian). Anywhere else where Obelisk is erected, it exists as a work of art and not as a shrine. The only exception is the obelisk in Ife. It was built by Oduduwa's grandson as a shrine. There is a consciousness, even though they are materially removed from ancestral home, the spirit knows what to do.

4. Look at the white cap Chiefs in Yorubaland. Ancient Egypt had exact same ministerial structure around the King. In fact, look at the cap structure itself, very simple when compared with the elaborate headgear of the Pharaohs, but the folds are a match!
Two.

My brother, I believed those Egypt theories long ago, not anymore.

What makes it impossible for Egyptians to have migrated from Emure-Ekiti, Afikpo or Gboko?

All these Jews & Egypt story somehow re-enforces our inferiority complex. That any high culture, sophistication, complex government or society couldn't have been developed by we Africans ourselves, right where we are now. That somehow, people brought mythology & others from some distant lands.

No shred of logic in it.

Ododuwa was said to come from Arabia. All these cultures you mentioned were not Arabic.

How does antiquity Egypt suddenly turn Arabic? Egypt was not Arabic until 7th century.

If all these conjecture are your evidence, then you simple know nothing about scientific rigor or scrutiny.

Ancient history, re-enacted at ceremonies, and passed on in songs and stories as a fabric of our culture are far more reliable.

Unless you have radio-carbon dated specimens linking Ododuwa to Arabia, forget it.

Yoruba are not from Egypt though. However Oduduwa was! He was described as someone knowledgeable, aristocratic and powerful! All these were the reason he was made a ruler and all the influences he left behind could be linked to those in Egypt!
Yeah, we have culture and all but that doesn't negate the fact that oduduwa also influenced some of it! That's our heritage and we are proud of it! Hence, no bini man was made king in Yorubaland! Find your bastard somewhere else!

Oduduwa wasn't an Arab man! He was supposed to be among the clans fleeing Egypt due to Arab attacks on the Egyptians!
Oduduwa was described as an hamite (the old egyptians) I.e, Tall and fully black and not like the Arab who are semite!

Oh, Ododuwa is no more Arabic but Egyptian. You prefer your Egyptian bastard instead of local one? Hahahaha.

First, you lack historical perspective of Egypt & Ododuwa.

Do you even know Egyptian Kingdoms & dynasties? Which King started what dynasty? And when? I know you don't.

No, don't go googling it up because anybody can write any rubbish online. grin cheesy

Ododuwa lived in the 12th century AD. That was during Abbasid era. Long long after Egyptian Pharaonic dynasty ended.

Even the foreign Greek/Macedonian one ended in 30BC. Actual indigenous dynasty ended 300 years earlier.

By 12th century, all vestiges of Pharaoh dynasty had been lost.

How did Ododuwa now come into a small village (Ife) mythically from Egypt under Abbasid Muslim Caliphs with Pharaonic pomp & regalia? Over 12 centuries later? shocked shocked

Pride is a very funny thing. It prevents people from re-examining themselves. They put pride over probity. Your pride of being Egyptian founded on inferiority complex is pathetic. grin cheesy

Chai, Benin's historical influence pains many people o. You know a jealous person will try put you down, like a bully. grin cheesy

Benin Empire is known to educated people. Your ignorance doesn't make it less true.

A freed slave, Olaudah Equiano wrote in the 17th century in London " I'm Ibo by tribe and a citizen of Benin Kingdom". In his Autobiography. I can bet my last penny you don't read such books that might contain any truth.

Benin territory in Eastern Yorubaland is well known. I still have relatives there. But hey, Benin has moved on. We all suffer 9ja problems together today.

@Diadem, I have many of your ilk sparing with me here, even 50 of you cannot impress me.
