I've been discussing with a guy that wants to start his own delivery service. Can those who are running a service give their opinions and advice on this thread? I'll start. Starting small is not a crime. However, a single delivery guy will make things difficult. I suggest a minimum of 2 delivery persons. This doesn't necessarily mean you get two bikes. Heck I know a delivery service that started without bikes at all! Their guys use public transport to move around. For a starter, you can try something similar. Also find other delivery services around you that are willing to work with you. You can outsource some of your deliveries to them for a slightly reduced price. This ensures that you can meet your customer's needs even when you personally don't have the capacity to. For a starting delivery service, it is frigging vital that you don't turn down customers if you can help it. This is because you are just building your clientele and reputation. You need every positive response you can get 4 Likes |

How much does a standard dispatch bike cost? Thank you. |
Re: Starting Your Own Logistics/ Delivery Outfit With Less Than 300k by Palantir: 12:55pm On May 06, 2020 |
kaze4blues: Last I bought was 350k. With the ban on okada in parts of Lagos, I think it may affect the price but I don't know. 1 Like |

kaze4blues:is dispatch bike not affected by the okada ban? |
Re: Starting Your Own Logistics/ Delivery Outfit With Less Than 300k by Larriekay: 11:59am On May 07, 2020 |
kaze4blues:also, do you not need to register or belong to one union or the other? |
Re: Starting Your Own Logistics/ Delivery Outfit With Less Than 300k by Palantir: 4:31pm On May 07, 2020 |
Larriekay: Nope. It wasn't and isn't affected. As long as you have a carrier box attached and all your documents and licences. No union as far as I know. kaze4blues: I know of a bike market at Oyingbo. I'll bet there are others in Lagos but that's the one I know. 1 Like |

Larriekay: I have come across quite a number of fleet management companies who have a structured delivery businesses. My aim is to start with one bike and leverage them for a weekly or monthly payment arrangement while they manage the bike. I know and understand that there may be risks attached to such. But not starting is the greatest risk. For me. It is not also all bike owners, especially those with one bike, that register and as such get to pay the huge licensing fees. I also solicit input from experience guys here for their advice and suggestions on how to better improve the business as a newcomer. The logistics problem in Lagos cannot be solved completely even with the present number of people into delivery businesses. |

lanreunlimited: I meant that more than before, as businesses struggle to meet up with orders from customers who are mostly not walk-in, solving the logistics problems become even more difficult for business owners. Since the advent of COVID-19, the demands for dispatch services have increased since a large number of customers now receive their orders through deliveries since they could not go outside their houses. The hugely commercial nature of Lagos means that demand for dispatch services will continue to rise. |

kaze4blues: This is interesting. What fleet management companies do you know? I've never heard of any. Do they manage the riders as well or will that be your own responsibility? |

Check out "hilla". They provide a platform, just like Uber, to connect riders with clients. The platform has a mobile app through which requests are placed by customers. They also have an option of managing bikes on behalf of owners if the partner wants this. 3 Likes |

Each time I read comments; I put up a smile ...Nice write ups from in-experienced minds guiding people wrongly! For investors or coming investors; ask technical questions to many writers .,be sure they have been in operation for more than 3 years and still in business. Check their operational activities before committing ur mind. Dispatch business can make or mar any business owner. Bitter pill.
