Nigerian Tech Startup Give Out Websites As Charitable Gesture by supernova094(m): 1:54pm On Feb 18, 2016
Nigerian technology startup, LasGidi Online have given out its initial websites, profylr!, a social network for university students and entertainment portal, redtangular space, as a sign of its Charitable efforts.

This was made known yesterday at a press briefing held at Oregun, Lagos.

The recipients of the company's gifts included a Nigerian Dance hall musician who prefared to remain anonymous, and Abiola Olagoke, a 300 level student of computer science, Unijos.

Speaking on the reason for the charitable cause, public figure of the lagos based company Richard Juwah explained that it was "the policy of the parent company, Richeecorp Group that necessitated all subsidiaries to form a habit of yearly giving."
Meanwhile, further investigation into the nature of the websites showed that profylr! and redtangular space were the first products to hit the Nigerian market from the 2 years old tech company and failed to win popular traction, hence the reason for the give away.

This has led to many criticizing the so called charitable gesture, terming the websites as worthless.

In his defence, Mr. Juwah argued, "we are not an NGO, we are a profit oriented private company. You do not expect a company like Facebook Inc for instance to give away facebook.com. Instead it would give out a less known, less successful product. Because it was unsuccessful with us doesn't mean these individuals can't make it work.

"Do these people expect LasGidi Online to give away twaddlehq.com, our flagship social network? The point to take home here is that our company is dedicated to charitable efforts and that should count for something."
