BLACK DAY IN NSUKKA. (A SAD AND TERRIBLE STORY). ---HELP IN ANYWAY POSSIBLE

It was just a God-given normal day on the 13th of February, as the ever bright and gallant students of SHALOM ACADEMY NSUKKA, Enugu State as a routine, set out on an excursion to the Aquatic Centre located at neighbouring Markurdi (Benue State). They left in 3 buses filled to capacity with students and staff.

So far the journey to their destination was a smooth one as the only thing on the minds of these students was their visit to the Aquatic Centre and the new knowledge they will attain, but little did they know that their journey to the centre would be cut short in such a terrible and devastating manner. On getting to Otukpo, a town just before Markurdi (their destination), a truck owned by DANGOTE GROUP OF COMPANIES trying to overtake another truck suddenly skidded off its lane to the other lane where our future leaders were moving on, and collided with one of the buses dividing the bus into two.

Seeing the impact of the accident and the damage done, the incautious truck driver with disregard for life and without sympathy to fellow humans decided to choose the dishonourable and develish path of fleeing with the truck rather than stopping to assist in saving lives and surrendering himself for possible questioning by relevant authorities. However, the devil planned worse but God being "THE ROCK THAT NEVER FAILS" decided to take control of the situation in making sure that the damage caused was not beyond what it was.

Sadly and unfortunately a young, charming, bright and intelligent God fearing student by name OPAM, AKACHUKWU R. who until her death was in SS2 lost her life, while FOUR other students who sustained injuries of various degrees are still being hospitalised and responding to treatment. I am sad and I am writing this with a heavy heart because this issue of DANGOTE TRUCKS causing nuisance on highways have become one too many and something needs to be done by the government and relevant authorities in curbing future occurrence.

It was clear to all today (16th FEB 2016) as LATE MISS OPAM AKACHUKWU was amidst tears and loud shouts committed to mother earth that indeed GOD GIVES AND GOD TAKES, but we also as humans should play our roles effectively in ensuring that the world is a better place for us all to live in.

Finally may the soul of the departed REST IN PERFECT PEACE, may God grant her family the heart to bear this great loss as she was the only daughter of her parents and may the injured hit full recovery. AMEN
