MODS PLZ HELP US AND MOVE TO FRONT PAGE....

As a concerned student of Uniport, I am calling on all Comrades, Alumni, Activist and well meaning Nigerians to please lend their voice to the gross tyranny meted upon the students of Uniport.

Last year, Prof Ndowa Lale, assumed office as the new VC of Uniport, the students all bathed in the euphoria of a regime change owing to the fact that the previous VC Prof Joseph Ajeyinka ran the school like a pig-farm Would have loved to say a Zoo, but in a zoo, there is order.

Everyone expected things to change under the new VC. But instead of things changing, it has only gotten worse. His first decision was to organise a PTF meeting (Parents Teachers Forum). One of the decisions of the meeting was to let parents know of every of our dealings. We now have our fees first texted to parents. Students only complained but couldn't help it.

Now to the tyrannical part, our fees were increased under Prof Ajeyinka, but later the FG fixed a 45k benchmark for federal universities. While students struggled to pay the 45k, Prof Lale has come out with the most hellish policy of all time. First, he fixed a deadline for the payment of school fees, when he realised that students revolted, it was suspended indefinitely. Little did we know that he had others means to get the money in mind.

On the 7th of March, students received a message from the school administration urging them to register their courses online before 11th. The school even gave a one day holiday in that respect. Now the problem is, students who haven't paid their fees couldn't register their courses.

How nice! All attempts where made to the school administration but failed. Students pleaded on wazobia Fm, Cool Fm and Unique Fm, to make the administration rethink on its policy, but all those pleas actually amounted to nothing as the students were greeted with a heartbreaking phrase from the school administration "No payment, no exams, no results".

The school fixed another deadline which elapsed on Thursday 7th April. Exams are to start tomorrow. Students have been instructed to come with their school fees receipt and those without their online receipt won't be allowed into the examination halls.

This is his first semester in charge of Uniport, if the policy should stand, then giving students first semester to pay is too bad. Why not one session then you can dish out whatever measure you deem fit.

Some final year students have not seen their year two and year three results. The hostels are in a dilapidated states and now the school has threatened that those who haven't paid will stand to lose one academic year. One year oh! Not as a result of carryover but a hellish policy.

Tomorrow students who have paid and those who haven't paid have decided to go on a peaceful protest. Guess what, the administration has threatened us. Sending out memos to our parents to stop their wards from any kind of protest as such wouldn't be tolerated.

It sickens me that the student union would actually appear insensitive to the plight of their fellow students. This ebola ideology by some students defeats the essence of Aluta and our shared humanity. How can a VC force students to pay the 45k federal government benchmark with some departments paying higher and still give them one semester deadline to pay or stand to lose one year. One whole year oh. If you see nothing wrong in this hellish policy, then you need to have your head examined at the closest mental asylum.

Please, Help us... All fingers are not equal. The economy is nosediving, fuel scarcity, inflation level are rising, now some students stand to lose one academic year. Please lend your voices.

Tomorrow we March, they can bring their guns, tanks, IEDs. Our voices will not be shut...

Name sake, I read your post & I understand your plight, that is the system obtainable in most schools, but since its the first time introducing that in your institution, the managment should be considerate.

So you people have only one semester to pay fees and that is hellish because....? In Oau, you have to pay your fees a month after a new session begins or you pay a penalty fee. Get used to it

This ur juvenile comment and parochial ideology would surely get u no where. Read the post, how can you forfeit one year? You say penalty fee, how does that equate to losing one year. Hiss...

So much misinformation being spread around.

If anything the current VC stopped the extra 50% surcharge students pay if they miss payment. He also directed that students who paid for accommodation and could not get be refunded.

Enough time was giving to students to register online with the 11th March date extended unofficially to March 31st yet some bad eggs will not. Notice of this was communicated before February 11 but poster says March 7.

There is actually a school calendar were all these dates have been noted but alas some are bent on causing havoc.

Student Union representatives are on ground to carry any grievance up but these people have other plans.

Tomorrow is not far, let's see what happens.

He has embraced sincere ignorance to the lingering economic situation of our country. He would not listen to reason neither stand sensitive to our plight. #SHUTDOWNUNIPORT
