As a child, I had a soft spot for ginger for no
specific reason and I had my secret recipe which
was my own special way of enjoying that rooty
plant. Ginger; an aromatic, pungent and spicy
root also characterized as one of the world's
healthiest foods is one plant I never fail to make
reference to everyday! Ginger is the underground
rhizome of the ginger plant with a firm striated
texture.
Historically, ginger has been known to be very
good at treating gastrointestinal distress;
however abuse of ginger also has its own
negative effects on the digestive system when
consumed in excessive amounts.
A plus for the nauseous pregnant women is the
fact that ginger has been known to suppress
nausea as well as vomiting.
Ginger also has anti inflammatory effect, serving
as a natural treatment for arthritis.
Ginger also has the action of naturally boosting
the immune system preventing against colds and
flu.
1. Intake of ginger seems to reduce the
symptom of dizziness, and Nausea.
2. Some clinical research shows that ginger
when taken during menstruation reduces
menstrual pains symptoms in as many as in
70 percent of women.
3. Most clinical research also revealed that
taking 1 gram of ginger before surgery seems
to reduce nausea and vomiting 24 hrs after
surgery.
4. Prevents morning sickness: Taking
medications during pregnancy is a great risk,
discuss with your healthcare provider before
you embark on any form of medication when
pregnant.
5. Arthritis: Research revealed that taking
ginger modestly reduces pain is some people
with a form of arthritis known as
Osteoarthritis. Massage therapy using an oil
containing ginger and orange seems to
reduce short-term stiffness and pain in
people with knee pain.

My secret ginger recipe
I prepare my ginger drink using the recipe below:
* I pick the fresh ginger roots; most usually
gotten from the grocery stores around or from
the market
* I wash them properly with enough water to
remove dirt and germs
* I spread in a tray and allow the water to dry up
* I use a manual (hand) grater to grate each
ginger root
* I pour all grated ginger roots into a kettle and
fill up the kettle with water (this is mostly
dependent on how much the ginger is)
* I add any sweetener of my choice
* I leave to boil for as long as I wish and till am
satisfied (I don't have a specific time frame)
* I leave to cool and then sieve the juice out
* I pour in my pre-washed bottles and then
refrigerate
* Its best consumed chilled
However, note that the safety limit for ginger is
about 2grams per kg body mass

2. Pregnant women - Before using ginger, talk to
your health care provider.
3. Taking ginger might increase risk of bleeding
especially for people with bleeding disorders.
4. A great care needs to be taken for people
with diabetes. Ginger might reduce the blood
sugar and as a result of this, diabetes
medications should be in check and adjusted
by your healthcare provider.
5. It worsens some heart conditions.

ginger has spicy flavor and it helps gastrointestinal issues. Ginger is effective effective anti-inflammatory agent. adding some ginger in your diet will improve your overall health... I drink ginger tea daily and it helps me alot.

I've heard about the benefits of eating ginger. I've seen some Jamaicans eating ginger pieces....i think like candy pieces and I never tried it but would like to.
I have had the fresh non-alcoholic ginger beer that they sell in health stores. It's very strong and spicy...but I really liked it.
I just have to tackle the cutting up of fresh ginger.
