INEC Declares Kogi Senatorial Rerun Election Inconclusive by Nobody: 8:08am On Feb 22, 2016
There was confusion in the political circle of Kogi state on Sunday as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the two senatorial rerun elections in the state inconclusive.
The commission had in Saturday conducted the elections in Kogi East and Kogi West senatorial districts.

However as the people eagerly waited for the results to be declared, the commission again said no result could be declared as the elections were inconclusive.
Declaring the result of the Central senatorial district, the returning officer, Mr Salihu James, said Ahmed Salau Ogembe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 45, 468, Senator Nurudeen Abatemi of the Progressive People Aliance (PPA) 31, 163, while Dr. Moses Wakili of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) scored 9, 962.

He however declared the election inconclusive following the cancelation of over 20,000 votes which affected the entire Otutu ward, two polling units at Upogoro in Okene local government area and Karaworo Eresuha and Inozomi wards in Adavi local government area as a result of election malpractices.
In Okene/Ogorimagogo Federal Constituency, Hon Tijani Damisa of PDP was however elected on opposed because he was the sole candidate for the rerun election.

In Kogi East Senatorial rerun election, the returning officer declared the election inconclusive following electoral controversies.
One Abduwahab Yinusa, who claimed to be the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) was said to have complained about the margin between the LP and the PDP in the election.

In Kogi East state Assembly rerun election result, Hon. Hassan Baiwa Abdullai Okura state Constituency, of All Progressive Congress (APC) scored 8,515 to emerge winner while in Dekina/Biraidu Constituency, Hon Idoko Moses Ododo also of All Progressive Party (APC) was elected into the state assembly.

In Ankpa 1 state Constituency, Hon Ahmed Mohammed of the PDP also picked the ticket for state assembly, while in Idah state Constituency, Hon Ekubule Ochejenu of PDP was also elected.
In Ofu state assembly constituency, Hon Friday Ali of PDP was also elected.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has commended the people of the state for the peaceful conduct of the rerun election in some parts of the state.

The governor who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Alhaji Abdulkarim Abdulmalik also praised the INEC for the manner in which the elections were conducted especially the innovation that ensured that voters no longer wait for hours after accreditation before casting their votes, adding that this was partly responsible for the relatively large turn out witnessed in some parts of the state.

The Governor congratulated those who won and urged them to be magnanimous in victory and called for gallantry among candidates whose party may have lost the election.

I am also beginning to ask myself that.

First it was the Governorship election that has sparked controversies, now this one is also "inconclusive"

Politicians and money and money.....

Some ten years ago...someone once said in a newspaper that elections can never be free and fair in Nigeria....because of the fact that people are not interested in actually developing the region....they want to win elections to chop money.

It does not matter what is done...whether option A4,or card reader,or open secret open ballot.....Nigerians really do not want a free and fair election.

Until Nigerians realize what democracy is for.....we are not going to get free and fair elections. This current government can bring in electronic voting....and some greedy politician will hire a hacker to hack into the system. Who knows...might even be someone from government self.

With the way things are going in this country, we don't need a soothsayer to tell us that 2019 general elections could also be "inconclusive"...But, the labours of our heroes past shall never be in vain.
