Don't politicized this issue. It involved people means of livelihood. People of us are idle for the past three weeks now because of scarcity of dollar to import raw materials.

The ACCI president said the situation had become so bad that even big manufacturing companies such as Unilever Nigeria Plc, Dangote Cement, Air France and Emirate Airlines were having problem getting foreign exchange.

He stressed the need for the Federal Government to come up with a comprehensive approach that would address the problem.

He said, “There is a need for government to do something urgently and stop living in denial.

It's quite unfortunate to observe on this forum that some people who claim to be educated chose to dispute the figures mentioned here rather than proffer solutions to the problems which this write-up is all about as seen in bold above.... I wonder how this country is going to move forward when the so-called "leaders of tomorrow" reason like this.... Quite unfortunate!

What is this raw material you people are importing?

China comes to Africa to get "raw materials"
The US and Europe comes to Africa to get same

Many posters here are out of touch with realities in Nigeria. Businesses are folding up faster than anyone can imagine.

Even a "paint rubber of rice" that previously sells at N950 has skyrocketed to N1400 as of yesterday. This is a first hand info, not propaganda. Those who still go to market (without waiting for mom) will understand.

The earlier will accept the doom that befell Nigeria the day GMB was sworn in, the better for all.

GEJ said he queued to get Peak Milk, very soon, Nigerians may not be able to afford certain commodities any longer because of hardship.

Businesses like Insurance and Investment Banking are really under serious pressures. Only God can comfort these folks, 50,000 or less, it doesn't matter.
Foreign or Local rice?

Really truth must be told, this Buhari govt is not doing enough! It seems he is very clueless on how to manage the vast Nigerian economy. His team of ministers are to me not the best. Granted they are good hands among them, but a lot of the others are just there because of their contributions towards the success of APC in the election. Nothing is working in this country now, people are angry everywhere; if you go the office you will under tension and full of the fear of the unknown because your boss is not happy! Everyday he is threatening fire and brimstone just because money is no longer flowing in. People are saying PDP did this, did that but things were not so gloomy throughout their 16 years rule. Now another fuel scarcity is looming and the president is no where to be found to address issues. He rather jumps to the next plane for useless meetings that does not address the fundamental problems this economy is facing. He seems like an arrogant man who thinks he knows better than any other person. How can a man who doesn't have a degree in economics refuses to hire or constitute an economic team that can help him out in running the economy. Everyday we are inundated with one corruption case or the other just to keep the masses busy from noticing their glaring incompetence. If Buhari is not ready to rule Nigeria, he should just honourably resign to save our dear nation
or simply give it back to Jonathan - the ineffectual Buffon who actually put the country in this mess .Jonathan !'stealing is not corruption !

The govt has never been the biggest employer of labor! Get your facts right. The private sector employs over 95% of active labour while govt manages under 5%!

Abuja is not an industrialized place like Aba, lagos and onitsha.

Its a civil servants paradise, how could they boast of a staff strenght of 50,000 , when all we have there are over glamorized shopping malls , restaurants and hotels.

are you guys dumb or just plain silly so when they say employment you think is only those that attend interview with app letter? This stats is for both formal/informal job loss. Let me explain if you lose ur job and cant buy food, polish ur shoes, sew ur cloths make/barb ur hair etc have those ppl doing those things not lost thier job with you? For instance we hear women complain of lack of husbands is it that there are no more men? no it means the men have no jobs to sustain marriage and so they put marriage on hold. Next is that hoteliers will complain that no one books thier halls and some workers are affected again. It goes on and on

GEJ and his PDP predecessors don dollarize our economy finish, sotay our economy cannot survive again without dollars?! We might as well dump the naira and start spending the dollar as our national currency na, abi? When they were sharing dollars during election they didn't know they were doing irreparable damage to the naira then. Smh.

May you receive common sense in this life and in the life to come!

I wonder who told you the inability of your President to fix the crashing economy has anything to do with sharing of dollars by previous administration? Sound economic policies are what makes an economy improve. Tell your President to give us one and stop blaming GEJ. Afterall, Buhari campaigned on the promises of being elected to "fix Nigeria". He claimed Nigeria was in a bad shape and he needed to be elected to "save Nigeria from its mess". Now he has been elected through the votes of people like you, and he is complaining that Nigeria is too bad to be fixed. He is either a fraud or he is highly incompetent! Either way, if you voted for him, you should be very ashamed of your poor decision-making ability by now!

I know everyone is entitled to an opinion. But stupidity in the face of mass suffering should be frowned upon. You just sat at home with your small air time typing nonsense. Others from company ceo to the cleaners are fearing for their well being and how they'll provide for their family and you are shouting "lies". You either can't afford newspapers or you live in a farm sorrounded by village folks who are not yet employed in the formal sector which would explain your complete lack of knowledge of what's happening in Nigeria. May God forgive and give you sense too.

I believe that you are still in school and you don't know much about the Economy.
As I am typing now , my company has concluded plans on laying off staff because of this dollar exchange rate. Cost of importing machine parts and Raw Material has skyrocketed. Mind you, I work in a manufacturing company.
No body knows who will be affected by this down sizing.
It is well!!

for your information, against your ignorance; you have no idea of how many many companies are situated in abuja. meanwhile, don't forget most workers troop into abuja everyday from other neighbouring states like niger, kogi, nassarawa and kaduna.

He said he wasn't going to devalue, so this is the next normal. Is it not better to buy fx at high rates rather than be 'banned' from producing.

Mr. President cannot just see that availability is more important than rate and it is better to keep industries and businesses running albeit at a higher cost. With less revenue from oil, the shortfall should be made up by taxes. Pray me. Who will tax, the unemployed, the empty warehouses or the padlocks on the gates of closed industries. Nigeria has entered into a viscious cycle of decay that Buhari will not be able to pull out from.
