Two suspected assassins allegedly sent to assassinate former Senate President, Senator David Mark were on Saturday apprehended by men of the Nigeria Police Force in Otukpo, Benue State.

The suspects, named Joseph Senda and Emmanuel Kura were driving a brand new Toyota Prado Jeep when arrested by the Police. According to an informed source on the details of their arrest, they had in their possession two (2) pump action rifles and four (4) AK 47 rifles.

While the suspects were in the custody of the Police at the Area Command in Makurdi, Dickson Akor, an aide of the governor of Benue State reportedly arrived to facilitate their release. But his intervention was rejected by the Police authorities who proceeded with plans to move the suspects to Abuja.

On Thursday before Saturday’s Benue South senatorial rerun, Governor Samuel Ortom was quoted as saying he couldn’t proceed on leave because he wanted to supervise the demolishing of David Mark. Efforts to reach the Governor for comments on Wednesday proved abortive.

Pockets of violence and ballot box snatching were reported across Benue South on Saturday in the course of the elections with supporters of Senator David Mark targeted and attacked.

In a brazen display of violence, Godwin Anebi a PDP youth leader was allegedly beaten to a pulp by thugs under the instruction of the APC senatorial candidate Daniel Onjeh in public glare of onlookers. He was then forced into the boot of a car and taken to an unknown location where they eventually dumped him half-dead. The incident happened at Onjeh’s Adum Oko polling unit in Orokam Ward 2. He is currently recuperating in the hospital.

Only yesterday Tuesday, about three hundred (300) armed militants invaded the Agatu village of Benue State killing and maiming residents of the area. An eyewitness told our reporter that the attackers were on a revenge mission on the people of Agatu for voting Senator David Mark in the just concluded Benue South rerun.
