PIND Holds Int'l Women's Day by ruthkufe: 6:04am On Mar 06, 2016 |
Women working in aquaculture, cassava, poultry and palm oil in the Niger Delta will gather in Asaba, capital of Delta state, on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 for information sharing and empowerment under a program organized by the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) to mark this year’s International Women’s Day. PIND, in a statement by its Capacity Building Programme Manager, Mrs. Bose Eitokpah, said the theme of the event designed in transforming women’s role in the sector and in empowering them economically, is ‘Pledge for Parity: Support Women in Agriculture,’ adding that it is aimed at addressing the barriers that reduce the participation of women along the agricultural value chain, from production to processing and trade." Eitokpah remarked that, “PIND Foundation has been promoting gender equality in the Niger Delta region through its programmes, projects and operations since its inception. PIND envisions an egalitarian and peaceful society that guarantees equal rights and equitable access to and control of productive resources; ensuring that individuals are empowered to create wealth and overcome poverty and disease irrespective of sex and other demographic differentials.” The universal theme for the 2016 International Women's Day is 'Pledge for Parity'. |
