@Neyoor, how can you say that it is not the sole responsibility of the government to provide job because probably it is not in the Constitution. So can you tell me what's the responsibility of the government to her citizens? The responsibility of the government to the citizens is to see to the basic welfare of her citizens which creation of employment is inclusive either directly or indirectly. If USA and other developed countries can ensure that their citizens are gainfully employed, what stop our country, Nigeria from the following the same footstep knowing quite well that reduction of unemployment will play a lot of role in helping our economy and seeing to the betterment of the citizens. 1 Like |
[b] Further more, the corruption exhibited by our government has led to unemployment. Those who are meant to use public funds for building more industries embezzle such funds for their personal use which resulted in massive increase in unemployment rate. Without going too far, Nigeria is said to be the eight most corrupt country in the world and so has high unemployment rate. Taking the case of the missing or unaccounted $20 billion at NNPC among many other corrupt practices and embezzlement carried out by our government, this funds could have been invested in infrastructures that will aid businesses which will create job openings but it is now a pity because it is the other way round. Chinua Achebe[1983] in one of the finding in his book, 'The Trouble With Nigeria' emphasized that the cult of corruption formed by our rulers, and their insatiable quest to loot the National treasury has sailed us into the 'ocean' of economic confusion and unemployment. Embezzlement is not only applicable to Nigerian government bro. It's a world phenomenon. If there nation offers you nothing, why can't you offer yourself. |

Any where in the world, govts are assessed with the level of unemployment in existence. Hope Lai Mohammed cannot dispute this. If APC can't lower the unemployment rate as was on May 29, 2015, it has no excuses to give for its failure. Barack Obama and other leaders lowered their respective countries' unemployment rate after the crash of 2008 |

Can we partake Modified Aysucess I give kudos to your approach to this debate with a sound and comprehensive approach. Your argument shows clearly that you have proper understanding of the subject. The subject is "The government is solely responsible for the high unemployment rate in Nigeria" Unlike the respondents, you showed clearly that responsibility here is not only about providing employment opportunities but creating an enabling environment for would be investors or entrepreneurs to properly engage their businesses themselves and other unemployed. This has not been countered by the opposition. Let me also lend my opinion here by stating that we have had great men in this country like Gani fahwemi graduated with pass and reaching admirable heights in their career. Emphasis on grades against creative skills, self motivation is one poor orientation limiting the capabilities of employable youths 2 Likes |
This is a blatant lie bro. There's no country, developed or underdeveloped that makes provision for job to all its citizens. Not even USA. Please, if you have evidence for that first statement, it will be appreciated, if not strike through it Sir.

Wow! It's quite laughable that you didn't complete the sentence from which you extracted that question from. I said why do government promise roads, bridges which they do not eventually build. In as much as construction of roads tend to provide jobs for the populace but most times, the government do not eventually undergo those constructions as promised. |

Hmn, embezzlement may occur in most countries, but that of Nigeria is quite pathetic. Take a look at the recent arm deal scandal, missing NNPC $20 billion and many more corrupt practices. If this funds embezzle were used to improve our industries, like our refineries, Ajaokuta Steel Company, Delta Steel Company etc. I believe the unemployment rate in our country will reduce drastically because jobs will be available for the populace. |

aysuccess99: As if none of the construction is implemented. Laughable indeed, despite the fact that I tried not to complete the statement because I knew it another flaw from you. You are arguing blindly bro. How could you jump into an incorrect conclusion that they don't finally construct the roads? For your information, endless construction is on going, check out some here. https://www.nairaland.com/2439219/10-ongoing-mega-construction-projects |

Tourshaw: I did not and will not say that there's a nation that can provide jobs for all her citizens. Like I said in my essay, there's no nation that can have zero unemployment rate. All I'm saying is that USA despite being a capitalist country still provide jobs for her citizens. So why shouldn't our country do the same. http://www.cnbc.com/2016/01/08/nonfarm-payrolls-december-2015.html This is a recent link where jobs were provided by the government for her citizens. 1 Like |

Tourshaw: Endless construction is going on all thanks to the current administration. In as much as I will agree with you that construction works are going on but we all know and it's quite obvious that in our county, the government just construct few out of many roads that need repair and possibly construction again. Can you deny the fact that countless number of people die everyday due to the poor state or condition of our roads. The recent case of Mr. James Ocholi and his family who died in auto crash due to the bad state of our road comes to mind. |

aysuccess99: Are you saying without government provision of employment, the nation will starve to death or what? Do you realize that as there are civic rights there are also civic responsibilities? And you keep repeating line of the government loots as if that really amounts to something. If leaders loot and care less of the welfarism of the common men, won't you do anything. Ok, I understand you, we should just fold our arms and expect manna from heaven |

There is one thing that we must note is that Nigerians are not lazy. Let's take a look at the number of influx of candidates who applied for the immigration service jobs which led to some of them being stampeded and that led to their death. If Nigerians are lazy, most people would not apply for the job instead they will depend on the government for their food, clothing etc. Also, Nigerians are not lazy, the incident of Ph.D holders being reported to drive Dangote trunks comes to mind. These are people who have spent their time reading and involving themselves in a lot of research but stoop so low to accept the employment provided by Dangote since they have no means of survival and they can't afford to steal and involve themselves in criminal activities. 1 Like |

aysuccess99: Nigerians are lazy, if they are not, they would embrace blue-collar jobs like farming to fend for themselves. They depends solely on government for the jobs that are not available. They believe education is the only way to get a better job. China, Korea are triumphing technologically because their youths make use of the available resources but reverse is the case in Nigeria. Our fertile lands are crying for being neglected. |

It was gathered that the incident was as a result of burst car tyre and not bad road as you said. Tourshaw:Hmm. How will you say that the money looted by the government those not amounts to something. It's quite a pity to see the state which our country have generated to in terms of corruption. Ina s much as we can't fold our hands and expect manna from heaven but I put it to you that due to things that our government did not put in place has affected our country. Taking an instance, the issue of epileptic power supply, most artisans did not wait for the government to provide them job, for matter of emphasis, some of them are even graduates, but due to the lack of constant power supply by the government, most of them have been left with no other option than to close their shops and even fold up. How about small business Enterprises and our local companies which are being affected by the failure of our government to provide those things that will help improve their business. lack of loans, poor electricity supply, bad government policies and even more have affected them and made them to fold up. In as much that it is sardonic depending on a failed government but I tell you that most of government policies have one way or the other affected those who are even self-employed. It is a just a pity that in the midst of abundant in this nation, we still suffer as if we have nothing. 1 Like |

My Name is Akanbi Abdullahi Adeshola and am part of the audience/viewers my question is directed at Mr Omotosho representing UNIILORIN and it goes thus: Unemployment is a monster that will come to consume all and sundry if its unchecked, people are easily brainwashed and indoctrinated with negative believe system because of frustration from unemployment(Causing high crime rates, terrorism and hatred even evident with tribalistic utterances mostly from unemployed youths on nairaland), knowing these Who should be responsible for creating employment and training the so called unemployable people, and why is there so much stolen funds, abandoned projects, and stupendiously rich politicians who embezzle what was budjeted for developmental projects, skill acquisition/empowerement and employment programs? 1 Like |
