Dear Entrepreneur,

Cooking gas usage is fast on the increase especially in urban cities across Nigeria. Just within 5years, cooking gas consumption & Demand as grown over 120% and just less than 30% of our population uses cooking gas for cooking.

The NNPC would be broken down into 30new independent Companies & CEOs and one would be dedicated soley to the LPG sector. This would further buttress the statement made in December 2015 by the The minister of state for petroleum resources and group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Ibe Kachikwu that the NNPC would further deepen the use of LPG in Nigeria and also roll out free cylinders to every home in Nigeria.

As you already know, cost and availability of Kerosene has tripled in just 3months and this is because subsidy on kerosene has been removed and importing the product into the market has been very expensive and difficult because CBN isn't given dollars to the importers.

It Is therefore evident that the use and demand of LPG would double from 2016 and now is the right time to make investments in the sector

LPG Mini Cylinder Refilling Plants (MCRP) would be needed to bring closer gas to the consumers and retailers. This mini refilling plants are mobile and easy to operate. This type of refilling plants requires very small piece of land/space and they can be easily relocated to a more profitable location. The plants also have over 20years operating life span.

The cost of investment varies depending on the size & Capacity of the plant

One of the principal barriers to switching to LP Gas for potential customers is the initial cost of the equipment. One cluster in the urban middle-income group stated that they had access to credit. On enquiry however, it was established that these respondents all worked in the same organization and that the staff had set up an incompany cooperative.

The majority of respondents did not have access to consumer credit and the survey did not disclose any microfinance or easy payment system which could be relevant to the acquisition of LP Gas equipment.
This also calls for investment in terms providing a payment system whereby potential lpg users can purchase cooking equipment

Do you know that Nigeria produces cooking gas in abunance?

● Yes, the NLNG produces over 80% of LPG consumed in Nigeria. Mobil Nigeria and other company produces the rest. In
fact, we produce more gas than what we currently consume. the excess gas is usually exported to other neighbouring
African countries therefore, availability off the gas is guaranteed.

Where do I set up my plant?

● To decide on the best location to setup your mini cooking gas plant business, consider highly populated residential
areas. Being a bulky product, transportation of cooking gas can be costly and cumbersome. Many consumers would prefer
buying gas in their locality therefore, locate your business in a place not too far from residential areas, however, avoid
locating very close to residential dwellings since the law does not encourage this. Having determined the demand for
cooking gas in the area, decide on the best location within the place for your business.

Setting up your Plant:

● Many residential areas have shopping centers where you can get space to set up your cooking gas business at an
affordable rent. Your ideal location will be an area with high traffic such as a busy road, stage or street junction close to a
market place.
Setting up very close to residential buildings that are not safe in their environment will not be allowed by the authorities,
therefore, ensure that your enviroment is percieved as safe. The business should be visible and easily accessible.

Do you know that just 30% off our population uses LPG for cooking?

● Yes, just a very small fraction of Nigerians uses LPG as a cooking energy. in fact, Just 30% of our population uses LPG
as a cooking energy. Nigeria consumes the lowest LPG in Sub Sahara Africa and the government is massively promoting
the use of LPG for various reasons which also includes Environmental and health issues.
In the past 4years, there has been a tremendous increase in the demand for the product. we went from 110,00mt per
annum to over 270, 000mt per ammum in just 4years.
once the government can successfully convert the rest of the population (70%) not using LPG for cooking, we should be
consuming over 1.5millionMt per annum

Do you know that the NNPC already has imported containers of cylinders into the country for free distribution next year?

● Yes, the NNPC already has positioned containers for 12.5kg cylinders in strategic locations in Nigeria. the NNPC plans to
commence free distribution of LPG cylinders to every home in Nigeria. this would help increase the use of LPG in Nigeria
and promote a green environment.

Do you know that Nigeria earned about N68.957 billion from lifting Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG, for both export and
domestic consumption in 2013, according to the NNPC. In its Annual Statistical Bulletin for 2013, the country lifted about
417,924 metric tonnes.

● Currently, national consumption is estimated at 30 percent or 250,000 tonnes. This is low when compared with the
production or output of 850,000 tonnes of LPG earmarked for domestic utilization in 2013. This translates to 1.8 kilogram
per capita, whereas the West African regional average is 3.5 kilogrammes.

Do you know that Nigeria would gain about $10.38 billion if 50 per cent of its population switch to Liquefied Petroleum
Gas (LPG), otherwise called cooking gas by 2018, president of Nigeria LPG Association (NLPGA), Mr Dayo Adeshina, has
said.

How do I refill my mini plant?

● There are gas logistics companies that would come refill your plant no matter the location in Nigeria.
LPG is deregulated and come with a very competitive pricing. the prices of LPG are also open therefore LPG logistics
companies won't sell gas to you at an outrageous prices. you would only be charged for cost of transportation to your
plant site.
it is advisable to constantly monitor the level of gas left in you plant so you can book for a delivery 2days ahead.

popular LPG companies are:

Chimon Ltd
Sahara Energy
A.A Rano
NavGas Ltd
and many more

you can visit their websites for more information.

Daily Insight on the LPG market

The existing LP Gas road tanker stock is in generally very poor condition and is inadequate to cater for an expanding buoyant market. In general the industry needs newer, safer tankers and the services of capable haulage contractors to participate in a rational pattern of primary and secondary road transport distribution.

We have not more than 300 LPG road tankers in Nigeria and this is grossly inadequate to feed even the existing LPG market.

The responsibility for primary transport of LP Gas to the primary depots should be taken on by the company, or companies, operating the depots.

Debottlenecking in the port of Lagos will require government intervention. It will be the responsibility of the marketers/ distributors to organize their own transport from the primary depots to their own filling plants throughout the country.

WHY WE MUST BEGIN THE ENFORCEMENT OF LPG USE IN NIGERIA

With the global average air temperature of the earth hitting 1°C hotter than it was at the start of the twentieth century, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has warned Nigerians to brace up for more hot days, warm nights and heat waves.

In a statement signed by the Head of its Public Relations Unit, Eva Azinge, NIMET noted that with the long residence of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the current warming would continue beyond 2100, even when the emission of greenhouse gases is reduced.

The statement said, “We must therefore prepare for a future with more hot days, warm nights and heat waves because of past and present emissions. This preparation will require smart adaptation strategies and engaging in climate resilient practices to cope with the damage that has been done.”

Over 72% of households in Nigeria depends on Kerosne and Firewood for cooking which produces Greenhouse gases. LPG use as a major source of cooking energy would drastically reduces Greenhouse emission caused by unclean Kerosene & Firewood.

As investors and Entreperuners, We must increase our investment drive in the LPG sector to promote a safe home and environment to foster prosperity on Earth for our future while leading the way for environmental conscious businesses".....SARGAS Energy Ltd.
