Kano – No fewer than two million youths may lose their jobs due to the closure of some Sachet water producing factories in Kano Alhaji Muktar Tata, the Secretary-General of the state chapter of Association of Sachet Water Producers of Nigeria, made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.

Tata said many producers were compelled to fold up due to the increase in price of polythene used for packaging the commodity. He said prices of the material which sold for N480,000 per tonne in January had now increased to N1.1 million.

“The situation has forced the closure of about 60 per cent of the `pure water’ producing factories in the state. “About two million youths working in the industry might lose their jobs and the state may face scarcity of drinking water if the situation is not addressed,” he said. The scribe said the situation had compelled the association to increase the price of `pure water’ from N5 to N10 per sachet, and N100 per bag of 20 sachets as against N60 before. “The sachet water vendors have agreed to ‎sell a sachet at N10 and N15 for two sachets,” Tata said.

He said the association would ensure that the commodity was produced under good hygienic condition, and that the association had set up committees to ensure compliance. (NAN) MTM/ARAB/AMY

When they were chanting Chanji Dole(Change by force) and masu gudu su gudu(those that will run should run), what was in their mind. This is the dividend of change, they should enjoy it while it lasts.

Buhari is doing a self country destruction. We the citizens should put an end to what he is doing to the economy, by calling for his resignation. We Should have Nigeria spring. The National Assembly should put in motion impeachment of the president. He buhari has failed. Same has he was told in a recent interview by a foreign journalist. The Truth must be said to him, he has failed Nigerians. Accepting and taking full responsibility of his failed style of leadership, we put Nigeria back to his path of growth again.

They voted for change so they should enjoy the results of their change till 2019.
APC has nothing positive to offer this country all they do is blame GEJ and PDP for their inability to perform.

I am certain those youths both above and below 18 years of age contributed on no small measure to d 1.9 million votes attributed to Kano State during the elections. They are definitely APC apologists.

Ngige that has drunk from d evil cup no longer sees hardship or poverty...all he sees are Federal civil servants paid salaries. Are these civil servants? Do we even have up to 2 million federal civil servants? Ngige who has sold his excellent Igbo roots and pedigree in exchange for political relevance only sees through an APC lens and these ones to him are definitely PDP members.

This is d kind of feedback the president gets from his sycophantic, noisemaking ministers and he will foolishly believe all is well without confirming the real situation of things...how unfortunate.

Kano gave Buhari approximately 2million votes during the last elections. Buhari's change is here to collect 2million jobs from kano yoots. This self seeking vendetta of Buhari all cos we disgraced him for 12 years running!

May Obatala touch the heart of Buhari to have mercy on Nigerians.

Is just a shame. Despite everything GEJ did for these Northerners, they still didn't vote for him, they voted their person, now see what's happening. Imagine all these were happening during GEJ's regime........all hell would have been let loose.

They should source for local material for the packaging please. We cannot continue to depend on other countries of the world to live. Same mistake Greece made that landed her in serious trouble.

Let us think, think and think to innovate solutions to replace those foreign junks.

Recycling business can come to the rescue at this critical period.

This is a good change as 'no pain no gain'

why can't you guys reason pro actively. Producers will be forced to source for locally produced bags for the pure water and over time there will be growth.

Instead of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel , you will rather grope in darkness.
