Ogun wanted Drug Senator arrests Party Member for calling him a fraud on whatsapp

The controversy whether or not millionaire politician, self acclaimed philanthropist and Nigeria’s newest “Godfather”, Alhaji Buruji Kashamu is a drug baron and fugitive from the United States law has been on in the Nigerian press for the past few months.

A section of the Nigerian media had reported last year that that Alhaji Kashamu’s name came up in a recent Court ruling dated September 25, 2009 by Judge Charles R. Norgle of the United States District Court in Chicago, Illinois in which the Judge upheld Kashamu’s indictment by the U.S government on drug trafficking charges and conspiracy to smuggle heroin into the country.

Kashamu was described by the U.S government as the kingpin of the drug cartel.

In quick response, Kashamu published several rebuttals in the newspapers and alleged that he was not the one being sought after by the United States Government, but that the alleged crime was committed by one of his brother who is now late.

Kashamu, in his defense, also claims that he had been cleared by a British Court and produced what purports to be the decision of a Magistrate Court in England.

Kashamu also referred to his recent issuance of German visa sequel to his clearance by international security agencies as a further proof that he is not a fugitive and that the U.S may have been looking for a wrong person.

However, from Saharareporters’s investigation, it appears that the matter is far from being over as the United States government insists that the man the U.S government is looking for is no other person than Buruji Kashamu, not his brother and that the government of the U.S still regards Buruji Kashamu as a drug kingpin and a fugitive from the United States law.

The U.S further states that it has never withdrawn its warrant of arrest against Kashamu maintaining further that the charges as to Kashamu remains pending and will request for his extradition from Nigeria in due course.

The United States Government has also accused Buruji Kashamu of using fraudulent means to obtain a German Visa in 2009.

The U.S government notes in its brief that Kashamu communicated with German officials using the name “Buruji Kashamu Shodipe” instead of Buruji Kashamu.

According to the U.S government, Kashamu was indicted in the United States under the name “Buruji Kashamu” and the warrant of arrest against him was issued in that same name. It is the position of the U.S that any confusion by German officials that led to the issuance of a Schengen visa to Kashamu may have been caused by Kashamu’s use of the surname “Shodipe” in his application and communications with the German consulate.

Saharareporters investigation has revealed that there is indeed, a pending criminal action against Mr. Buruji before the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois involving fifteen people.

The Case 1:94-cr-00172 is before Hon. Judge Charles R. Norgle. While Kashamu’s other coconspirators had been jailed, Kashamu’s case is being held under the fugitive Calendar.

That is the background of an alleged criminally minded individual who became a senator in Nigeria.

According to investigation, Buruji is said to be working for Bola Tinubu who urged him to join the PDP in a bid to erase his drug image and be causing disunity and disruption in the party.

It would interest you that this black sheep in its mandate to continue to destroy the party is presently using his power to detain a member of the party Mr Adedeji Babington Ashaye at the Ogun State Police Command Eleweran.

Babington Ashaye who was alleged to have referred to Buruji as a fraudster in a whatsapp forum was invited by the Police State Command .

He thereby reported at the early hours of today upon which he was detained by the Police under the guise of investigation.

This shows how easily the Police can be bought in a bid to oppress or punish any individual.

This is a simple show of power and oppression or how can you explain this situation where a legislator turns around harrasing those he is expected to be protecting.

Meanwhile, that senator Buruji Kashamu is a wanted drug kingpin as alleged by US is in the public domain, that he is involved in fraudulent practices is not in doubt.

In the meantime, the People’s Democratic Party member, Deji Babington-Ashaye was Tuesday, arraigned before a chief Magistrate court in Isabo, Abeokuta for calling a Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district, Buruji Kashamu a drugs Baron and jail breaker.

Babington-Ashaye who was reported to have hurled these abusive words on Kashamu on “PDP WhatsApp group” known as PDP match to victory was arrested by Police and charged to court for engaging in the act that threatens the peace of the state.

The Prosecuting counsel, Sunday Eigbejiale said the accused committed the offence on between March 13 and 14 ,2016 at about 2:30pm at Opposite community High School , Ogere, Remo in Ogun State magistrate district.

Eigbejiale said, Babington-Ashaye conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by passing insult on Senator Buruji Kashamu on a WhatsApp Group known as PDP March to victory.

According to him, Ashaye called Kashamu drugs Baron and jail breaker, challenging him to go to United States of America (USA) and clear the doubt and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249 (d) of the criminal code cap 29 Vol.11 laws of Ogun state of Nigeria 2006.

Ashaye however, pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of breaching public peace.

The defence counsel, Bola Oluwole , said, the offence was bailable and asked the court to grant his client bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Oriyomi Ogunfowora, granted his bail in the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira ( N250, 000 ) with two sureties in the like sum.

Ogunfowora adjourned the matter till March 30,2016.

You have the right to criticise constructively but you don't have the right to insult people. The guy deserves to be arrested if he had insulted Kashamu. His crime inlaw is called character assassination

Illiterate OP, do you know what slander means? That's enough to get anyone arrested according to our extant laws. Educate yourself before coming out in public to say rubbish.

Slander means you only read but still do not understand. And that is not slander but libel as it was written not spoken. With all these allegations on the senator, the victim only need to proof that he was saying the truth by coming up with those he truly frauded. That is one of the defenses, when it comes to defamation.

slander
noun (plural slanders)
- A false or unsupported, malicious statement (spoken or published), especially one which is injurious to a person's reputation; the making of such a statement.

verb (slanders, slandering; past and past participle slandered)
- To utter a slanderous statement; baselessly speak ill of.
synonyms
- defame
- libel (always in writing)
antonyms
- glorify (baselessly speak well of)

There's a context for which you can rightly claim that something 'written' on WhatsApp is figuratively 'spoken' ; libel is more applicable in published/print media articles (newspapers, books etc).
- - -

Then again, the real issue is that Buruji was defamed, which is an offence. No court has found him guilty of being a 'fraud', so calling him a fraud amounts to slander, for which you can be arrested legally and face charges. No need for long stories here.

It is a pity that you think you are clever and literate. Buruji is oppressing that man simply because we are in a lawless and barbaric society.Slander and libel will need to be specific to be construed as slander or libel. For example saying somebody is a fraud is not slander as it is too general but saying somebody is a fraudster who specializes in defrauding old women is specific and therefore slanderous and in written form libelous. Anyway I do hope Buruji destroys PDP in Ogun state along with all the atenujes like you.

Ashaye truly deserve his current travails. Everyone on the forums like Ogun peoples forum and Ogun state today can testify to his constant lies and character assassination against his perceived political enemies.

He was one of OGDs boys same with Sf Ojo that Amosun's wife got arrested sometimes ago and was also at a time rooting for Buruji. he is well known for using foul and unprintable words against people.
