A country held hostage by a particular tribe whose customs and tradition are allergic to modern trends and development cannot progress Cos they don't know the difference!

A year after one of them came back as president, look at where they kept the rest of us.

Who would want to come back to an arrested-development?

The doctors want to come back to Nigeria and are asking for financial assistance in relocation and you are asking about Hippocratic Oath.
Who is going to pay the custom duties when the returnee doctors want to import their MRI machines and colonoscopes?

Please stop mentioning "Hippocratic Oath if you don't understand what it means."

Apart from the stated facts above, lots of their mediocre colleagues who now oocupy sensitive and powerful positions here who would see them as exposed colleagues that might outshine them, would frustrate these guys especially in govt hospitals.
Those meds practising abroad know how the laws keeps them in check hence they might come with that professional legal consciousness of those environments. But our lawless MDs who are demigods in their eyes will feel threatened. Only the up and coming ones would be eager for those guys to return to help lift their skills up.

The problems with Nigerians working abroad is that they expect to get the same kind of renumeration and incentives that they get abroad. That will never be possible. The average Nigerian cannot afford to pay for such fees talkless of the government. You know it's funny. You relocate to another country for 20 years and come home only for 2 weeks every 7 years. Your children and family become Americanized. Then you start complaining about how bad Nigeria is and how all your mates are now in top positions here doing nothing. How light is stabel abroad etc. But home will always be home. Where you can speak pidgin freely without a forced accent and still feel at home. The way things run in Nigeria is different. The culture is different. The infrastructure is different. The salary is different. You cannot come back to Nigeria and start living like you are still abroad. Relocating abroad has advantages and disadvantages. The doctors want only the advantages. The problem is that the doctors want to be earning commensurate with what they are earning abroad. Do you know how much health care costs u.s citizens and the U.S govt?

They doctors in diaspora should visit hospitals in their proposed choice area of relocation and give the government details of modern medical equipment lacking and advise them on how they can acquire such.

Nigeria healthcare system needs reform. Accessibility, Affordability, Delay in Accessing Healthcare, Changes in Healthcare Policy and Services.

Tariffs and Import duty is secondary. Those are for self interest. Even if all the Nigerian doctors return with the best equipments. Where does the average & poor man stand?

Can a poor man in need of MRI afford it? Does he have access to healthcare service? Is he going to receive prompt medical intervention without delay?

Until then....

That dream is dead. It is not worth the trouble. I have medical pieces of equipment including EKG machines, ultrasound machines, ABG machines, BACTEC, etc packed in a warehouse in Lagos. I killed that dream of venturing into the murky water of healthcare in Nigeria. I will definitely auction off the machines and move on. I can't live in Nigeria neither can one comfortably rely on a manager. So why bother. Even if the conditions are met, none of the doctors are moving back to Nigeria.

These set of professionals should just forget it and thank God they've already been replied.

Why will they be thinking of coming home now?? This is not the best time because our system of government is still BAD.

No infrastructure, bad electricity and no favorable housing scheme. All these alone will make them regret coming @this time.

Are you seriously asking that question? or did you fail to read the original post

It is evident that you don't understand what the medical doctors are saying.

What is wrong in asking for the FG to support the healthcare system in Nigeria or make it easy for them to bring in the necessary medical equipment that Nigeria so desperately needs or giving them subsidized loans to open medical facilities in Nigeria

Afterall, wont you still benefit from all of it when you yourself decide to go to the hospital or are you comfortable with the way healthcare is in Nigeria

This has nothing to do with pride, it would be foolish of them to come back without laying the necessary groundwork, a lot of which has to be done by the FG
