Thanks for the insight on rice production in 9ja. What measures can be put inplace to curb those challenges for local farmers. Because Big farm owners with mechanized strategy wouldn't really worry about some of the challenges you'v mentioned. And still they wouldn't bring down price. Coz in naija once a price of a popular commodity goes up, it barely ever comes down!

Well, we need improved technics to produce more quantity cheaper. Here we need a comprehensive govt policy towards it.

If you can reduce cost by 70% through better yield and reduced wastage, supply will eventually increase and foreign competition will eventually reduce price generally. But in 9ja we have no consistency of policies. Policy summersaults to favour a few privileged people with monopoly is a big problem. Like import licences granted discreetly while publicly saying there is a ban.

At the end, medium scale producers in large numbers can do the trick if encouraged with cheap loans and some subsidy in the event of crop failure. Young energetic people who proudly take up agric as a career is the way forward.

Imagine 1 million young Nigerians growing 50 to 100 acres yearly. Soon Nigerian rice will become famous across Africa and beyond like Nollywood.
