They must consider his baby. Give him some weeks behind bars (he didn't actually pull his crime through). I believe it is also his first time.

For those that have concluded that he impregnated a woman without being ready for a baby, you should understand that the only constant thing in life is change. They might have been married for some while and he must have had money at some point in time!!!

What can I even say here?

Honestly, that is not an excuse for him to steal. He should have atleast beg or even to a living church to beg for financial assistance.

Fine accepted no one was willing to help, why should you now start with a cartoon of formular? Why not one tin? Na wa o
This is why I really love Prophet TB Joshua if our so call men of God can open a page from Prophet TB Joshua book this world will be peaceful habitable. This guy should had gone to Synagogue church of all nations and am sure the God of Prophet TB Joshua will make him happy, stealing is not the solution. A twins widow woman who is a RCCG member went to SCOAN and she explained to Prophet TB Joshua about her problem how people rejected her. Prophet TB Josua gives her small babies scholarships from infant to university level and in addition he gives the widow 2 million naira. Watch Emmanuel TV Dstv 390 or gotv 82 and see thoinsands that have been help by prophet TB Joshua and Emmanuel TV partners. Prophet TB Joshua practices what he preaches. God bless.

facts of the matter.
1, at 5k per tin thus he stole 9 tins haba....... and walked out with them how with a bag from the cashier.......
2. court system so effective all happened within 4days.
3.no proof of the whole matter.
from an ideal point of view the judge will add this to his case as work he has done....... same with the police. wot a shame.
4. from the post its my opinion that most most nl dont have forgiving spirit.
5. and are dubious by nature..
6. why did he adjourned the case to me its too simple and obvious, i stand to take correction......

Stealing is bad even though he stole to provide for New born child. With that being said, is there a way we, NL members can help the man and his family?

For all those saying " see what I must marry dey cause", while you have a very valid point, but, life ain't strictly math!

I guess you have never seen an employed couple both lose their jobs within the space of 3 months . . . or worse scenarios play out in real life.

It happens in Nigeria, Congo, Brazil, US, UK, Japan, China, Singapore, Lebanon, everywhere!

Why did they send him to kirikiri(prison) when he has yet to be sentenced?

These people are just clueless! How can a baby food thief be treated worse than a political thief? undecided undecided

The poor really don't have a voice.

He has no excuse for his action. Stealing has been his specialzation. N45k worth of baby food for just one child at once?

Dont be surprised to see him caught in another supermarket the next day even if he had succeeded with this one.

It is obvious the man has never been arrested for any crime before and feeling the pain his newly born is going thru he couldn't just help it and he felt like doing this once and for all that's why he stole a carton... And you're saying all this to a man in need when he have a useless country and leader whom could not provide simple social security for its citizen... Haba u be wicked human being... You're the one who's suppose to be in kirikiri instead of that poor fellow cos u must be a devil yourself...

SO BECAUSE OF BABY FOOD, THEY ARE JAILING HIM. I AM NOT SAYING WHAT HE DID IS RIGHT. POLITICIANS WHO HAVE STOLE BILLIONS OF NIGERIAN MONEY ARE WALKING FREELY INTIMIDATING CITIZENS WITH THE SAME MONEY. AS A MATTER OF FACT I EXPECT THE JUDGE TO PAY THAT N45,---------. OR EVEN THE POLICE AS THEY GET DAILY RETURNS. IT IS SAD NO MERCY OVER THE JUDGEMENT. DIARIS GOD OOOOOOO.

EVEN THE OWNER OF THE SUPERMARKET WOULD HAVE BRIBED THE POLICY WITH MORE THAN 50K TO SEE THAT THEY DEAL WITH THE MAN WHICH HE COULD AS WELL FORFEIT FOR THE '' THIEF''. AND SEE IT AS A SACRIFICE.

[quote author=repogirl post=44304502]Yeah, lol. I guess you're right.

But the cue I'm on about is how they managed their Prison system and prisoners by rehabilitating them back into the society.

I know we are still a long way away from it anyway as the first step to fighting crime is eradicating poverty.[/quote
Care for the prisoners when the law abiding ones are not even cared for yet? Until the law abiding citizens and poor chop belle full, nothing for anyone behind bars or prison; not even justice!
This is my opinion based on the conditions of Naija.

Nonsense they allow the poor man go jare. What did they expect him to do? Watch his new born baby cry until he die?
If not our Leaders who dump our money in foreign banks, living it citizens to suffer. I only blame him why he never opted for a cheaper formula . range y 5k or 10k.

Ignorance! The woman did not attend antenatal care, well I understand that (poverty or illiteracy ?? ).
One week after birth, she is already looking for SME (not sure) milk for a week old baby Sad!
If her breast was not secreting milk, there are local herbal remedies that work almost 100%! if she can't afford hospital bills.
The baby doesn't need any artificial milk for over 3 months of age! At least the man could have had some three months to hustle out baby food money legally. Women should stop sometimes unnecessary nagging and see that breastfeeding is the best for the baby till about a year or even more!
If you tell them now, them go say dem nor want make the bweat flat or say na poverty mentality.
Complete Breastfeeding remains the best for the baby till over 6 months sef! She don push the man to go thief now (though the guy probably have been stealing) and the 50k he doesn't have for milk will be used to bail him. Double tragedy.

Some women really can't produce breast milk. I know someone who is a lactation consultant in the US. Her job is to coach new moms on how to successfully breastfeed. Contrary to what people think, it doesn't come naturally. Yes it's natural, but it takes practice for both the mother and baby to get it right, in addition to the nipple pain no one warns you about. So lactation consultants are really helpful.

However this particular L.C. had a baby and did not have any milk supply to breastfeed. She drank all sorts of herbs, nothing helped. She was heartbroken. She had to resort to formula.

Bottom-line, not everyone that wants to breastfeed is able to. Formula is not poison. It was made specifically for babies' needs.

After all when all is said and done and we grow into adults no one knows or cares the difference between who was a formula fed or a breastfed infant. It's certainly never been on any form I've filled nor an interview question.

We all know that breast is best, but formula comes in at a close second. I'd rather have a formula fed baby than a starved baby. This is coming from someone who breastfed for way over one year.

Off topic, just wanted to put that out there

I really appreciate your lengthy post to further help me understand the natural challenges lactating mothers sometimes undergo. But I think those who are having serious inability to secrete breast milk are often quiet few. My sister experienced a little difficulty but was corrected in few days, my female family friend had similar condition and was corrected with a herbal remedy in a few days also. But my point is some healthy mothers are capitalising on the formulated milk as quick alternative even when their conditions can be remedied. On this topic, I don't think the mother had this condition of inability to secrete milk otherwise, the husband could have stated it to gain more pity.
Its sad when I see people especially women do all sorts of things from pregnancy to breastfeeding, there is much more work to be done on mother-and-child health advice.

I'm just concerned about the baby and her mother. Lactation may not have been well established which pushed the man to go do wrong. What he did was wrong and deserves to be punished for it.

A man who cannot afford #2000 for infant formula where will he get 50k?

l didn't know our judicial system could be this "effective".

We should all work hard to be free from the shackles of poverty.

Just because of a formula what about the big thrives who have been stealing the money formula to make Nigeria a better nation so that he can afford to buy the baby food and he judge is giving the poor man a bail of 50k when he can not even afford to buy the SMA food which is bout 2k. From all indications he is a father trying to take care of his family regardless of the financial hardship of the nation cos If he could afford it will I doubt if he will go and steal the formula .

Its a pity I am just seeing your useless post today. I would have given it to you while it is still hot if I had seen it earlier. You are such a fool. Did the wife concieve and give birth in one day? Was the pregnancy not up nine months? What was his plan for feeding the baby before birth? Must he steal a whole carton to take care of an infant? Are they twins? You are stupid for justifying stealing. How I wish he stole that food from you.

And one woman did this same thing in America. She stole some eggs in a supermarket, they called the police. Instead of the police to arrest her, he rather bought her more food stuffs to feed her children....
