FashoFashola to Nigerians: 'If You Want to Have Stable Electricity Supply, Vote PDP Out in 2015'

Jul 11, 2014.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, while marking his 2,600 days in office at an elaborate ceremony held at the Blue Roof of the Lagos Television premises, has said voting out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power in next year’s general election is the only way the country can have stable electricity.

According to The Nation, Fashola said electricity crisis in the country is caused by lack of ideas and insincerity of purpose on the part of Federal Government.

"Yes I agree with you that it is possible to generate electricity and to make sure that everybody in this country has electricity, we have to do the right thing. But you know what, the only way that you and I will have electricity in this country will be to vote out the PDP.

” In 16 years hundreds of billions of naira have been spent and we cannot switch on electricity and in seven years we have created four plants. It shows that something is missing. So unless you vote for All Progressive Congress it is going to be difficult to have electricity.

“They started from vision 2020-20 and I told you then that they were having a nightmare, that there was no vision.

“They moved to seven point agenda and now they are transforming.”

They broke record

First time in the history of Nigeria when power dropped to 0MW for some hours in 2016.

That is what happened when Buhari appointed A SAN instead of Engineer to head Power Sector

If we can get this from the very best amongst politicians (Fashola), it simply means we doomed as a people.

Number 1 problem: Who made Fashola "the best" ?
Was it you or a group of people imagining things..?
All of them are the same ten and ten pence, I don't know what qualifies one as "the best politician".

Your statement is rather ironical.

Fash we have obeyed you and have voted out PDP and voted in APC.But I'm very worried because I'm still using power bank to charge my phone in my house. The power lines are still dormant. We now use them to dry laundries.

In all fairness, he governed Lagos with a steady hand and brought laudable development to the state. Thus my view

Yeah
But what makes him "the best" ?
Others have also done same in Lagos and other States.
I'm sure even you would equal or even exceed the so called developments if you were thrust into such a position of power and authority.
I'm sure you've heard of an 80s. gov called Jakande and his exploits even though some were considered crude.
He was the first Lagos gov to embark on Metro transport system for Lagos and may have completed it, if not for a military coup. IGR was a term virtually unheard of at the time.
Imagine a gov like that having all of today's IGR at his disposal ?
Lagos would be comparable to Paris by now....

To whom much is given, much is expected.

No power all day. Can’t work. Live from Abj where Fashola is sleeping with generator powered house.

Aso Rock powered with generator. PHCN offices powered with generator.

Pathetic.

It is really unbearable and disgusting. Every year huge money is allocated to resolving our issues but these civil servants keep corrupting the politicians. The real thieves are the civil servants. Shameless lots.

Smh. This how people come out spewing hate at people who can barely survive and whom u know absolutely nothing about. Politicians contest and invest heavily on election because they already know what they plan to gain. They dont need any civil servant to tell them to loot, rather it is the civil servants that try to block the leaking holes thru beaurocracy. Left alone politicians will destroy this country and flee abroad with their family e.g diezani, bala, adoke etc. Civil servants are not going anywhere. So quit the hate pls

Who told you that top level civil servants can barely survive? Who told you because they cry foul about salaries does not mean that they are not stealing. The only set of people in government circle who cannot get fired are civil servants. They are always there. Bunch of thieves. They go to church, mosque etc and bear such titles as Elder this elder that, imam this imam, yet they keep robbing the country.

What Nigeria needs is a system that can checkmate corruption not strong men. This is why it appears like Buhari is failing because we lack systems that can throw up corruption when engaged.
The amount of money being thrown at projects in Nigeria without successful outcomes can only be explained by corrupt practices of padding and kick backs - leaving contractors with barely enough to execute.

Each time government initiate a public private partnership to drive progress, they go on strike through their unions.

These PPPs are actually designed to deepen accountability but corrupt civil servants will resist it and if they can’t stop it, they frustrate it when such is eventually implemented.

First of all civil servants can be sacked. Go and read PSR. Secondly u appear to be referring to a particular case cos am sure bearing religious titles is not peculiar to civil servants neither is it relevant. You dont get promoted or respected because of your titles in civil service. Infact nobody recognizes them but you. The criteria for promotion is passing your exams, seniority and vacancy. More importantly it is not civil servants that throw money at projects. Its politicians that decide which project their administration is interested in. All civil servants do is to ensure that the bidding and award process complies with procedure. Yes there may be corrupt civil servants, just like there are corrupt contractors, corrupt pastors and corrupt engineers. But thats not enough for u to generalise. Ok
