GOVERNOR Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state has been commended for giving priority to the health sector in the 2016 budgetary allocation of the State.

Giving the commendation in Lagos, the Nigeria Network of Non-Governmental Organisations, NNNGOs, remarked that the health sector in Lagos got about 9.6 percent of the budget which is higher than the 2014 and 2015 allocation of about 6 to 7 percent.”

Speaking during the quarterly CS-Media forum organised by Devcoms Network, the Secretary General of the Association, Barrister Ayo Adebusoye however urged the governor to ensure more transparency in the implementation of the budget and make copies available online.

Further, he said the distribution of ambulances to all LGAs and General Hospitals in the state immediate after the Governor assume office was a step in right direction.

Adebusoye said efforts of the state government may have little or no impact without the appointment of health authorities into the various Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, across the state.

“The health authority personnel are an important structure in the health sector. They are recognised by the National Health Act as the body to manage health at the local government level.

He said they supervise activities of Ward Health Committee and health officers and that their time had elapsed, and urged the Governor not to waste time appointing new officers.

Adebusoye noted that the Lagos state government had invested a lot in healthcare which needed to be complimented at primary care level, but it was not happening remained the weakest point.
