2005 Kathryn Shevelow authored “Charlotte: Being a True Account of an Actress’s Flamboyant Adventures in Eighteenth-Century London’s Wild and Wicked Theatrical World."

Apr 6, Actress Greer Garson died in Dallas at age 92.

Apr 6, In Peru Leonor LaRosa revealed her torture and beatings to a television station.

Apr 6, Tammy Wynette (55), country singer, died at her Nashville, Tenn., home. Her songs included the 1968 hit “Stand by Your Man."

Apr 6, The University of Connecticut's women's basketball team beat Tennessee 70-61 to win a third consecutive NCAA title, a day after UConn also won the men's championship.

Apr 6, In Ecuador in the midst of a national strike by prison guards, inmates in Quito's women's prison took two television news crews hostage to press their demands for shorter sentences and better living conditions.

Apr 6, In San Francisco Umar Hudson stabbed his girlfriend, Jernell Scott, to death in front of her home on Ellsworth Street after she reported his sexual abuse of her two daughters, aged 9 & 13. In 2012 Hudson (35) was sentenced to 205 years to life in prison.

Apr 6, In Merritt, British Columbia, a girl and two boys aged 10, 8 and 5, were found dead by their mother in her trailer home. Allan Schoenborn (40), their father, was arrested April 16 in connection with the murders after local residents discovered him hiding in rugged bush.

Apr 6, German Chancellor Angela Merkel made an unannounced visit to northern Afghanistan to meet with her country's troops and view rebuilding efforts. She pressed President Karzai to review carefully a new law that critics say legalizes marital rape. In southern Afghanistan an insurgent rocket attack hit the Netherlands' main military base, killing one Dutch soldier and wounding 5 of his colleagues and 2 Afghan soldiers.

Apr 6, Wilma Mankiller (64), the first woman chief of the Cherokee Nation, died.

2011
Apr 6, In Alabama a parking lot shooting in Opelika left one woman dead. The estranged wife of Thomas Franklin May (34) and another woman were wounded. It was all related to a domestic problem and was preplanned. The next day May was arrested after he walked up to journalists and said he was the man authorities were after.

Apr 6, France’s top court refused to allow citizenship for 10-year-old twin girls born to a surrogate mother in California, affirming France’s legal ban on surrogacy.

2014
Apr 6, In London three women from the United Arab Emirates were in hospital after being savagely attacked in their room at the four-star Cumberland Hotel by a man wielding a hammer. On April 8 officers arrested three men aged 56, 34 and 32 on suspicion of attempted murder following raids at addresses in north London. A woman (31) was also arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
