This is one of those unpopular posts that kinda earns one the "Hater tag" but I'm not trying to shit on Wizkid but rather trying to clarify the misinformation about Wizkid being the first Nigerian artist to be featured on a Billboard Chart.

The Billboard is a organization popularly known for its music charts such as the Hot 100 singles chart and the Billboard 200 albums charts. Besides those two well known charts, the Billboard also has a large number of charts such as the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs, The Billboard Twitter Last 24 hours chart (which Wizkid was featured on courtesy his collaboration with Drake), the Official UK Singles Chart among others, which it monitors and publishes.

For the sake of correctness, it would be right to say that D'Banj, who had a top 10 single (Oliver Twist at number 9) on the Billboard UK Official Singles Chart in 2012, is the first Nigerian to chart on a Billboard chart considering date (2012 which is 4 years old). Don't take my word for it here's a screenshot and a link to check it out yourself.

I'm pretty sure that if one really checks the Billboard there might be more Nigerian artists who have singles that have been charted on the Billboard music charts.

Dbanj ko, Wizkid ni. . . . where Dr Alban done dey billboard since 1990 and sold 16million records in Europe.

Dr. Alban was born as Alban Uzoma Nwapa into a middle-class family of 10 children in Oguta, Imo state, Nigeria.[1] He had his secondary education at Christ The King College, Aba, Nigeria and spent most of his youth in his hometown Oguta. At age of 23, he travelled to Sweden to study dentistry.[1] To be able to finance his studies, Dr. Alban became a DJ. He worked as a DJ at the Stockholm club Alphabet Street.[1] Very quickly his name became widely known, especially since Dr. Alban often sang to the records he put on the turntable. DJ René Hedemyr discovered him. Alban finished his studies and even opened his own dentistry practice, keeping his disk jockeying as a lucrative sideline.

In 1990, he met Denniz Pop from the SweMix label and together with Denniz and Rap-Queen Leila K, they released his first record, "Hello Afrika". Alban Uzoma Nwapa took the stage name Dr. Alban, a nod to his dental studies. His debut album Hello Afrika included hits like "Hello Afrika" and "No Coke", both of which ended up being million-selling singles.[1] The album itself was quite successful which earned Alban Gold-certification-awards in numerous markets including Germany (for sales of over 250,000 units), Austria (for sales of over 25,000 units) and Switzerland (for sales of over 25,000 units).[5][6][7]

One year later this success was surpassed by the second album One Love. The album contained European hit singles such as "It's My Life" (which was used as background music for a Tampax advert) and "Sing Hallelujah". The single "It's My Life" reached No.1 in Israel, Austria, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and No.2 in Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom.[8][9][10] While the song "It's My Life" reached Platinum status in Germany (for sales of over 500,000 units), in the Netherlands (for sales of over 75,000), it managed to sell over two million copies in Europe.[1][11][12] The album in its turn reached the top of the album chart in Austria and entered the top-5 in Switzerland, also managed to reach No.6 in Germany.[13][14] The album received a Gold-certification-award in Germany (for sales of over 250,000 units) and Platinum-award both in Austria and Switzerland (for sales of over 50,000).[6][15][16]

Dr Alban pass all of them and is in fact a world music legend. He sang in Pidgin with full Igbo accent in a combination of Afro, Euro dance techno, rap and reggae.

Wizkid Starboy becomes first Nigerian artist to feature on Billboard charts

Drake'ss 'One dance' shines the light on the Nigerian pop singer's International presence.

Wizkid has become the first Nigerian artist to emerge on Billboard’s Twitter Last 24 hours chart courtesy of his feature in Drake's'One dance' song.
Two days ago, Drake dropped two singles, ‘Pop style’ featuring Kanye West and Jay Z, and ‘One dance’ featuring Wizkid and Kyla. On 'One Dance,' the 6 God gets assists from Wizkid, who he worked with last year, and Kyla, sampling the Crazy Cousinz remix of her song, 'Do You Mind'. This raises the bar a lot higher for the star pop singer helping to improve his brand visibility. The tune 'One dance' features production by Ninteen85 with co-production credits by 40.

Wizkid already featured Drake in a remix to his 'Ojuelegba' fan favourite and award-winning song.

The single 'One dance' is off Drake's forthcoming album, following his successful "What a time to be alive" released in 2015.

The collaboration was said to have come about thanks to Skepta, a friend of Wizkid, who introduced the song to Drake during a Wireless Music Festival held in London.

The crossover tune has gone on to have other covers and refixes with top artistes such as Sarkodie.

The star pop singer has had other international collaborations preceding this one with Drake. He has worked with Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo, Ty Dolla $ign, and recorded a hook with Coldplay’s Chris Martin for pop star Rihanna. A performance with Chris Brown was in the works also in South Africa at the ‘X Tour’, so was another recording with UK star Tinie Tempah, and Norwegian pop icons Nico & Vinz. The 'Baba nla' singer is also likely to put out new music with American- Nigerian singer Jidenna.

Drake also has released another single titled 'Pop style' featuring Jay-Z and Kanye West.

Check on the new joint 'One dance' off iTunes.
