This is not surprising, given that the transmission network (PHCN) wasn't privatized, nor were the discos and gencos given the freedom to charge market rates. There is no difference between the "privatization" that happened with power and what is going on in the petroleum sector right now - the government still tries to call all the shots, and then turns around and acts surprised when private operators refuse to step in and throw their money away on loss-making activities.

There are critical national infrastructures you can not privatize, I am not convinced refineries are one of them though, but if you understand how this country works, a JV is far better than privatization for the refineries.
Privatization is a lazy man's idea of solving problems.

If Alex was the MD of these 2 national assets yet have the effrontery to now tell us the solution to a problem he had the powers to not only influence by shaping energy policy but also solve with the powers he possessed t that time, then I apologize on all unborn persons behalf.

It is very annoying .....
some of us need to be rational, being naive in national issues is uncalled for.
this nation had set of leaders who among other malpractices do things in anomaly now another one comes and advocates for change in attitude by ensuring that things must be done accordingly and in due process.
Here we are some agitating for begging Jonathan, invite Maduake and Okonjo, when are we going to wake up form the slumber, when our youth will start think like rational individual, i think if there is wrong, the right should be a thing to be out of the effort of all not by castrating some group of people and praising the same set of people who corrupt this nation.
The independent marketers are just trying to frustrate the gvt so as to achieve same as GENCOS and DISCOS in the power sector, promising adequate power supply but instead giving even worse electricity than what we experienced with NEPA.
We should support this present gvt, if not for any other reason at least the importance that Nigeria must move forward in the next four year should be of greater reason.
The failure of any gvt will left an indelible marks not at end of the ruling gvt alone but spell out more on the common people who are at the receiving end always.

Are dis ppl madt Did dey mention mention fuel has been crippling d nation for the past 2weeks Dis scarcity has been here for more than 2months for heavens sake...

Oga if ur excuse for ur own failure is someone else's supposed failure, den u are simply an idiotic failure.. Yes there was a crippling scarcity especially in the last month's of the last administration but atleast there was a clear reason being dat marketers were being owed their subsidy claims... Atleast a sensible govt would have been proactive enof to have learnt lessons from dat experience and have a clear cut solution at hand whether temporal or permanent.. Kip making excuses for ur mediocrity and watch urself wallow deeper into d abyss of foolishness.
I was only reminding shallow minded mooooronic yidiots like ursef that act as if fuel scarcity is something new that it has been part and parcel of Nigerians for decades.

for ur info as of 25 may 2015. GEJ had conceeded defeat thus was parking to leave Aso villa, no longer interested in fuel matter. And that was the only time we had fuel issue 2ru out his govt. So check urself well to c if u have "shallow forgetful mind"
Is that not enough to program ur brain to reset and know this govt inherited mess from the pdp

"A lazy man's idea of solving problems"? Right, so we should have kept good old NITEL in business and refused to allow all those nasty private telephone operators into the country ... By all means, keep substituting empty sloganeering for critical thinking, and see how far that gets you.

How one can keep worshipping government, despite living in a country whose government has failed at everything it touches, is beyond me.

Both of us are not on the same IQ score, so, that which may be ambiguous to you may as well be as lucid as ever for me, to know if you qualify for further response, can you tell me the clear difference between a fully privatized entity and that which operates a JV agreement?

That you suppose you know my IQ score says everything there is to say about your limited intelligence. Since you're so smart, why don't you tell us all what Arrow-Debreu's general equilibrium theory, the socialist calculation debate and public-choice theory all tell us about the efficiency of private vs. public enterprise?

Your pathetic resort to insults to "justify" your (frankly illiterate) opinions illustrates everything that's wrong with Nairaland. Every houseboy and motor-park tout with a little poorly-digested half-learning can fancy himself an intellectual while spouting nonsense.

Block head, answer the question to qualify for any discussion.
After several days, you couldn't even get the answer to that simple question, yet you open your mouth to criticize the government.
No more free classes.

Listen m0r0n, I'll answer your stupid question just as soon as you've done answering mine. I don't take classes from loudmouthed gala sellers, so shove your "free" lessons up your ars3hole for all I care. Why do useless, delusional f*ckwits like you insist on staining every conversation with their uninformed opinions? Now scamper off back to whatever flyover or bridge underpass you normally loiter with your cheap wares!

Nigeria's tragedy is that it's actually run by imb3ciles of similarly low caliber to your stupid self.
