Body Odor also called bromhidrosis are the offensive and unpleasant smell of a person’s body which tend to be highly embarrasing.Under normal circumstances, body odor is normal and isn’t really much of a problem but
immoderate body odour can be very
destructive,embarrasing and discomforting.

A person who has body odour tends to be avoided and discriminated by people around him and this leads to severe damage of self-confidence.However,people who are aware that they have a body odour problem tend to avoid social interaction and body contact with others.

According to Dr.Steve Donalds,Body odour is caused by the excretions from the apocrine sweat glands and bacterial activity on the skin surface. The apocrine sweat glands secretes a large number of chemical compounds needed for the skin microbiota to produce odorant substances. The apocrine sweat glands can be found in the areola, anogenital region and around the navel.

When bacteria acts on sweat,it causes a chemical reaction that discharges an unpleasant odour. This is the reason why areas in the body such as feet, armpits, breasts and groins are prone to sweating and that remain moist are more likely to discharge an unpleasant odour.

People who suffer for body odour are likely to experience Heavy sweating, Nervousness and anxiety. The following are some tips for reducing body odour.
1.Bath Regularly with anti-bacterial soap: Bathing atleast twice a day will help to reduce the amount of bacteria on your skin and make your skin look
fresh.Bathing regularly prevents alot of skin diseases.
2.Maintain high level of personal hygiene: When taking bath, make sure you pay attention to areas that are prone to sweating such as the armpit, breast etc.According to Dr.Dean Carter, people who tend to be exposed to sun are advised to take a warm bath more frequently.

3.Dry yourself thoroughly after shower: Drying yourself with a towel doesn’t just dry the drips of water alone, it helps to dry of areas in the body which are prone to sweat.
Note:A dry skin makes it harder for bacteria to breed.

4:Apply deodorants and body sprays: Applying deodorants on the armpit gives it a great odour and prevent bacteria from breeding.Body sprays in the other hand give the body a nice fragrance and help to cover the smell of bacteria on your skin.
However, antibacterial and antifungal powder can also be used on the face to prevent oily skin.

5.Put on clean clothes: Putting on clean and fresh clothes will help to keep the body odour down.
It is not advisable for you to wear too tight clothes, they are
liable to generate heat especially in sweat prone areas.
