Editor’s note: Shomoye Abiodun writes that any fight that is not set around the interest of the masses is selective justice orchestrated for personal reasons and such should not be celebrated by the masses.

I need neither to be a regular customer of the popular “Baba Ijebu” nor to play the much packaged football bet before I will be able to predict accurately. It will be a waste of effort and resource to also introduce artificial intelligence to accurately predict what is running within the mind of our embattled Senate president. It is very easy to know that the thought within Senate president’s mind is monopolized and it is; why did I go against my party’s wish?
The embattled Senate president assumed the position via unarguably a political coup from his political party’s perspective but a beautiful political tactic from a free and objective mind. This date “June 9, 2015” might forever be a day to eternally regret in his (Saraki’s) lifetime. A date that if the judgment goes against him will forever hunt him and a date that will end up as his personal tutor with “No to desperate approach” as the course of study.

Senate president for some couples of months now, boldly believe he could “Maradonised” (dribble) his way out with his initially introduced delay tactics but it seems power that “belongs” has “companised” (stood against) his process. It is now becoming glaring day by day that he (Saraki) might go down eventually, what a pity for the “Kwara Afonja”.

For clarity sake, I will not assumed the position of Danladi and admit the case has been won by the Federal government of Nigeria. I will therefore, embrace the use of words like “might” and not the expected words by a section of the populace which is “has” or its equivalents.
It is very apparent that both moral and formality factors are all against Saraki’s further stay as the number third citizen of a country under a flaming anti-corruption crusade. It has therefore become a necessity for him to resign and leave his hopeless ego aside.
The saint to take over from him is another dilemma by the way.

As much as his resignation in a sane society should not be further delayed, it is also important to make it clear that Saraki’s trial might not have ordinarily surfaced if he had romantically, loyally embraced his party’s decision and humbly bow to the godfather favored candidate (Lawan). I am not tagging his trial as “persecution” but factors surrounding its emergence seem to label it thus.
There is no doubt about the change that has occurred in the arrangement of trending topics on our various news media, a new selling point for news outlets has shifted out rightly from “Dasukigate” to “Saraki this, Saraki that”. Good for democracy you must say, a sitting office holder getting a “deserved” feature in the under production anti-corruption album, the number third citizen for that matter self.

In a sane and normal atmosphere, a “prosecution” of this gargantuan magnitude should have ordinarily been built on the foundation of “fighting corruption for the interest of the masses and also to act in accordance to the law of the land”. Even average Nigerians on the street of Nigeria actually believed this issue would have been kept under the carpet if Saraki had done the “good boy thing”. This trial looks more like a revenge mission by some power that belong and not the supposed normal reason for prosecuting a corrupt official, the primary reason ought to be; to defend the masses that were denied their much needed social amenities because of his alleged “selfish interests”. If we are really serious about anti-corruption battle, we therefore should not make it available as tool for some to showcase political superiority, in case there is a battle where two or more egoistic people are finding it hard to bow for one another. If he (Saraki) actually committed those atrocities, he definitely deserve to face the consequence. The annoying, immoral and “anti-masses interest” angle to me is; why his prosecution was seen as unavoidable. Is it for the interest of the masses or a punishment for his recalcitrance?

Part of the accusation tendered against Saraki is “Collecting salary equivalent to the governor’s own”, I am certain you were also wowed after the reading the statement inside quotation. Without wasting time, Kwara state government came out to deny that and claimed he (Saraki) was being paid his deserved entitlement as a “retired governor”. Though I am still lost trying to figure out how an elected political officer could be ascribed with the word “retired”. Saraki might be the scapegoat under trial now but he seems not to be the only ex-governor raping his state stupendously. An office of a retired governor in a “south western” state is said to be on allocation of six cars every three years, what sort of injustice is this? In a country where civil servants that dedicates their lifetime to energetically served the country is being paid peanut as retirement entitlement? Probably if our teachers could be placed under such bogus entitlement, Nigeria might be the home of quality education we have been craving for.
If we (as a country and citizens) are actually serious, actions should be initialized to restrain these governors from corruptly writing such underserved entitlement bonuses for themselves. But will we? I doubt!

Nonetheless, Dear Saraki, for the sake of Nigerian and the respect associated to the office you are occupying, please resign now. Our senate presidency position is currently been dragged heavily in the mud and as a Nigerian, I am embarrassed. In this life, you cannot win all the time, this you must consider and eat the humble pile.

For the good, Saraki’s trial, prosecution or persecution, has set a good standard which must be considered before choosing any occupant of our political positions. We have been enlightened now, but do we have the powers to call for prosecution if power that belong says no? It is appalling but it seems the masses’ interest is not worth considering. God Bless Nigeria and Nigerians!

Please who can help me reecho the embolden into the brain of those who are protesting for Saraki just because they have no other option to spite the government of the day.

Candidly to me, Saraki is just fighting a lost battle, engaging in an exercise in futility and paying for a "passport that leads to nowhere".

He might not have attained the position from a moral high ground, but he's there now and the case is in court. So instead of pressuring him to resign on an ethical basis, why not speed up the trial and if he's found guilty, removed from office and adequately punished?
But until then, he remains innocent.
