The inmates housed at the Badagry Prison would have add more days to their stay at the facilities because the only departmental duty vehicle a 32 seated Toyota bus No: PS 386 A1 usually used to convey those standing trials to the various courts dotted across Lagos State, has broken down and needs urgent repairs.

The vehicle that is presently lying idle at the Prison premises ,has been abandoned since it was said to be involved in a crash some months ago and is presently undergoing serious tears and wears as a result of it been exposed to the elements all the while.

The Prison management is however in quandary because they are unable to raise the fund put at seven hundred and fifty-seven thousand, three hundred and fifty naira. They gave detail estimates as follows windshield,25,000,side mirror,12,000,door glass 10,000,radiator 35,000,tyres 189,000,rewiring works,10,000,panel-beating works,25,000, servicing engine oil,15,000,servicing oil filter,3,000, brake pads,20,000,headlamps & traffic lights,55,000,seat uphostries,153,350,paintaing 60,000,siren horns 25,000,ignition key/steering rod,20,000 while miscellaneous, 100,0000.

They are therefore making appeal to various NGO’s and well-meaning Nigerians to come and assist them in getting the vehicle back on the road and save the inmates of staying longer than necessary in Prison yards

Bemoaning the state of utter neglect of the Prisons by subsequent governments, Chief Gabriel Giwa-Amu whose foundation the Stephen and Solomon Foundation has contributed immensely in the areas of face-lifting the deplorable facilities, improving the sanitary conditions of the Prisons, renovating dilapidating and near collapse buildings, providing modern furniture for office use, as well as helping to release indigent persons behind Prison walls, have called on fellow NGO’s to heed to the clarion call by the #Badagry Prisons authorities
Let us be moved by the praxis that postulates that justice delayed is justice denied and so we should in our usual manner come to the aid of the Prison authorities and by extension reliving the trauma our fellow compatriot are going through” he noted.

He said all interested Nigerians who wish to contribute, should make their donations directly to the OC in charge Badagry Prison. We are willing to associate with such donors by accompanying them to the prisons in Badagry.
