Macquarie University IPRS & iMQRES Scholarships are available for international applicants. IPRS scholarships require applicants to be eligible for entry into a PhD or MPhil program.

The aim of the scholarship is to enable and encourage academically able students from any nationality.

Macquarie achieved the maximum 5 rating – outstanding performance well above world standard – in three science disciplines in the recent Australian Government Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) evaluation, and 85 per cent of the University’s research activity was rated as performing at world standard or higher. Macquarie University fund postgraduate candidates of exceptional research promise and develop researchers with a proven capacity for research.

Applicants must have their previous degree.

Course Level: IPRS scholarships require applicants to be eligible for entry into a PhD or MPhil program.

Study Subject (s): Scholarships are provided in the areas available at the Macquarie University in Australia at Masters by research degree or Doctorate by research level.

Scholarship Award: The IPRS covers international tuition fees and compulsory health cover, for up to three years for a full-time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and for up to two years for a full-time Masters of Philosophy (MPhil). In addition to the international tuition fees covered under the IPRS program, Macquarie University offers IPRS awardees a living allowance stipend, valued at $26,288 per annum tax exempt (2016 rate) which is paid as a fortnightly stipend. Macquarie University usually supplements these scholarship places on offer with its own internally funded scheme, the Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES). The MQRES scheme is a Doctoral (PhD) scholarship program that aims to support exceptional research students. Macquarie also offers a limited number of scholarships to international Master of Research (MRes) candidates applying for an MRes/PhD ‘bundle’ (i.e. MRes Year 2 and 3-year PhD) through the competitive IPRS round each year. For these successful awardees, the MRes Year 2 scholarship is funded by the University (International Research Training Pathway scheme (iRTP)). Candidates will be awarded a provisional PhD offer, and they will be considered for a 3 year PhD scholarship funded by the University on a competitive basis upon successful completion of their MRes Year 2. (Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES)).
