On Friday ,the ancient Benin Kingdom announced that His Royal Highness, Edaiken N’Uselu,Crown Prince Eheneden Erediauwa will ascend to the throne following the death of his father ,the late Oba of Bini Kingdom, Oba Erediauwa, Omo N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo.


Here are 10 things you need to know about the next Oba of Binin:

1) Prince Eheneden was born in 1953, meaning he is 63 years old. He attended Benin Divisional Council Primary School and later Immaculate Conception College(ICC), Benin city.

2) On Saturday March 12, Prince Erediauwa was formally installed as the Ediaken of Uselu, Benin kingdom. This meant that he is now the next Oba, with the traditional rites he completed.


3) After seven Days of ceremony which came to conclusion on Tuesday , 6th of October 2015, Prince Eheneden was formally initiated into the Royal chamber of Iwebo in conformity with Benin customs and traditions. This is a precursor to assuming the title of the Oba of Benin.

4) Prince Eheden is a former Nigerian Ambassador to Norway and Angola.He has a B.A. in economics and sociology from the University of Wales and he is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.

5) Prince Eheneden will become the 39th Oba of Bini kingdom following a long line of Royals dating back to the 15th century. His royal name is yet to be known by the public.

6) Crown Prince Eheneden is married to three wives: namely Princess Iroghama,(Obazuaye N’Erie), Princess Iyayiota, (Obazuwa N’Erie), Princess Ikpakpa (Ohe N’Erie).


7) Impressed by the diligence service of Prince Eheneden when he was serving as a graduate intern in the Population Division at the United Nations (UN) in 1981, the Nigerian mission in New York, acknowledged his contributions through References.

He was also at the Southwest London College, University of Wales, Cardiff, as well as the Rutgers Graduate School, Newark, New Jersey, USA between 1971 and 1979, before joining the university of London’s Institute of Commonwealth Studies in 1985. This had come on the heels of his service as an administrative officer at the Nigerian Institute (NIIA), Lagos.


9) As an ambassador to the kingdom of Sweden, his Mission had concurrent accreditation to the kingdoms of Norway, Denmark and the Republic of Finland.


10) Prince Eheneden holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a deferred PhD IN international Administration. He is also a foremost leader in the Nigerian business Arena and has interest in the oil and gas industries.
