authoritatively confirm that
both the Speaker of Edo
State House of Assembly and
his deputy have been
successfully impeached by a
two third majority of the
house.
The impeachment was not
without a fight as there was pandemonium in the chamber
as series of gun shots were heard from the Assembly
ground as journalists raced to the venue to catch a
glimpse of what was going on.
Details of what led to the impeachment are still very
sketch but it may not be unconnected with the recent face-
off that occurred between the legislature and the executive
over the tenure of the local government council, which the
legislators said the governor erred in ordering the local
government council chairmen to hand over to their heads
of service.
The new speaker of the house is now Hon. Elizabeth Ativie
from Uhumwonde local government area while the deputy
speaker is Dr. Justin Okunrobo from Igueben local
government area.
