After a Protest by the Students of the University of Ibadan for “the unlawful rustication of a 500 Level Petroleum Engineering student, Tunji Epeti Michael”, who was alleged punished for for taking part in a protest over lack of water and electricity on campus.
The School Management has said that they may have to wait at home for one month before returning to school.
The university Mangement has refuse claims of rusticating only the said Tunji Epeti Michael, saying nine students were rusticated, reprimanded or discharged from Independence Hall for either leading a protest or illegal occupation.
the outcome of an emergency Senate meeting which was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Idowu Olayinka, ratified the decision of the management shut down the school.
Tunji Michael who was supposed to be doing his six months internship came back to lead the protest, due to his political ambition to become the Administrator General.
According to the Vice-Chancellor that the University requires N80million monthly to maintain overhead cost and the halls of residence. It was said to have received N42.5million from January to April.
Olayinka said in a statement while addressing the issue that it will be to open thye school now since the Governing Council which will consider the letter of appeal against Epeti’s rustication will seat on Monday 16, May 2016 during the the decision would be communicated to the senate.
