Residents of this neighbourhood in Owerri, Imo State woke up to the shouts of fire, which had engulfed a 2-storey building within the neighborhood. According to the eye-witness (Nnamdi Nwaigwe) who took the photos, the Imo State Fire Service Men later intervened, but that was after much damage had been done.

The response was rather slow, but all the same, the fire was eventually put out. But worst still, the Firemen came with rather poor gadgets and it was even said that they worked with ordinary muftis. That's quite unprofessional.


We hope the government can do more in equipping these guys. But notwithstanding, the fire was quenched and no casualty was recorded.

Poor fire codes.....poor fire service.

House built without sprinkler system, fire retardant materials, no fire extinguishers in strategic places....

Poorly installed electrical fittings....

And worse...no investigation into what caused the fire.....so no lessons to be learnt.

And at the end of the day....no fire insurance...so millions lost (at which point....we start begging govt to come and help us o).

Nigeria....when it comes to fire...we are in the hands of the Divinity.
