This is not women bashing, it's a fact. I have a lot of girlfriends who don't read, and the few who try to read only do so out of bare necessity, not reading just for the fun of it.
I know this because I ones told a girlfriend of mine just the other day that the new Dan Brown's movie will be out soon and I just downloaded the book to read, and she asked me why, since the movie will soon be out. True Story.
You're not really right about your friend preferring movies to novels.

Some people are just wired like that.

I can't watch a movie after reading the book. It will spoil the fun, as I can't ever go through the same narrative twice.

It's just like watching Game of thrones after reading the book.
How do you enjoy such after too many spoilers?

So I just choose one of the book or the movie, and stick with it.

I read contemporary African fiction. Currently reading 'The Fishermen' by Chigozie Obioma, with 'Born on a Tuesday' by Elnathan John patiently waiting.

After those, I will be getting 'Foreign Gods, Inc.' by Okey Ndibe, 'Night Dancer' by Chika Unigwe and 'A Brief History of Seven Killings' by Marlon James. My list is endless! African novels are the bomb!

The other writers I'll be reading shortly are: Jonathan Franzen, Jhumpa Lahiri, Alain Mabanckou, Jowhor Ile, I have an endless list and can actually read for a whole day!

there's no doubt about this assertion. Girls develop the hobby of reading Novels because they stay more at home compared to the boy's who'd rather spend their time outdoors playing football or other means of distraction.
This is a hobby that eventually sticks to them all through their adult life.
How did you know....I give you 90% for best comment on this thread. Ladies read a lot but only for fun,

its a hobby acquired right from early age as a result of being indoors while the boys are outside playing

footballs and other outdoor games, girls are mostly indoors doing the home chores and what other better

way to relax after the domestic work other than relax on the couch with a mills and boom or harlequin

book with a packet of speedy/coconut biscuit and cold tea
. Don't ask me how I manage to know.....

experience is the best teacher. I miss those days like kilode.

Yes they do but they read it for fun because what they read does not reflect in their life. Even after reading they still act weird instead of them to use what they read to improve their intelligence quotient because i believe the reason why we read is for self development but its opposite when it comes to our nigerian babe
if we use what we read to act you will say we are acting on fictional story not real. most men believe novels are generally fiction no matter how you try to convince them or try to live your life the way the novel adviced they will say we are living a fake life. so let's live real life for you and live fake life in our bedroom with our novels.

You are wrong, you see the stories in books are always, I mean always more interesting and contain more information than the movies which it's based on. So it's more fun to read books and it's totally OK to read a book before watching the movie.
Personally, I find it interesting to compare between book and movie to see where they screwed up or did well with the transition from book to movie.

Sir, Hailey Chase novels are some of the most intellectually challenging novels ever. I have read over 30+ of the novels.

The dude is crazy, the cover page usually portray semi nude girls but the contents are way different. He write mostly about crimes, investigations... You will get addicted fast when u read one
How come we don't see Nigerian women show these traits in their daily activities?

On Tuesday, I brought along three copies of novels by Bisi Daniels, Nigeria's leading adventure novelist as I left with the cast and crew of my "Sights and Sounds of Lagos" tourist documentary film for the final locations of the remaining scenes. All the babes rushed for the novels, but the guys did not even attempt to glance through the pages from morning to evening. And the ladies, Franca Aide, Celina Ideh and Cynthia Chima, were very happy when I told them to keep the books.

Over the years since my childhood, growing up in Nigeria, I have seen that Nigerian girls read more novels than Nigerian boys. You will also see more Nigerian women reading books than Nigerian men, especially among the Igbo's and Yorubas. But in contrast, more than 90% of Nigerian authors are men who are among the best writers in the world, including the first black Nobel Prize winner in Literature, the lionized Prof. Wole Soyinka and the first youngest winner of the Booker Prize, the iconic Ben Okri. That means Nigerian women prefer reading to writing.

There ar alot of Nigerian Female Novelists and poets.

It depends on upbringing too, I have been reading real novels since I was about 7. My parents present us with books as gift, so I fell in love with reading novels early. But some people can't read novels to save their life. Even those in art class will start looking for someone to read and explain in detail for them.
Interests differ, some would rather watch films and other hobbies.

Guys do read novels too though. I can't say which gender does that more.

Exactly, it's the same with me too. I grew up surrounded by books which my parents always got for us and I grew to love them. Though contrary to what most of the male gender on this thread are saying, romance is my least favorite genre. I tend to lean towards Mystery & Crime novels more than romance. I despise the romance genre. And reading novels is not a sign of laziness. Novels are actually quite educative and if truly harnessed can affect One positively such as in one's diction.

Anyone who doesn't agree only wants to make unnecessary noise. Nairalanders are well known for arguing against things they have no idea of.

& tbh most of the ones they read are related to romance, nothing really productive ...

NO!
And ladies please don't call 'romance novels' books! Cause the last time I checked, those sh!t does not help you improve your life in any way!

@ChappyChase, do you know the definition of a book? A book is a written or printed work consisting of pages glued or sewn together along one side and bound in covers.
Even if the genre does not make sense to you, it is still a book.
I've been an avid romance book reader for over 20 years and I cant quantity the knowledge gained from reading them. I passed English through out secondary school effortlessly as a result, I get to have basic knowledge on different subject matters, and the list goes on and on.

Very true. Ladies read novels more than males
Re: Nigerian Babes Read More Novels Than Nigerian Guys by meobizy(f): 11:51am On Jul 29, 2018
The reason girls read more than guys and it's mostly romance novels is the porn factor. If you read four or five you'll notice the well detailed multiple f-uck sessions written in them. No girl wants anyone to catch her watching porn so those romance novels are the next best thing, come to think of it they are a better option.

We also know how hypocritical females are: they love saying "I don't know what men love from watching people f-ucking". If you gloss through those novels you'll read worse filth than what we men decide is better watched. Guess what, h-omosexual sex is also a staple of those books. However because all the action is written and men hardly read women can act holier than thou.
