I don't know much but my 2shillings be : OGBOLI (ogbo- eri) , AROLI (aro-eri)meaning mgbe eri, many other villages in Onitsha r direct descendants of ERI.

Lol, you're trying to instigate a quarrel with common knowledge, i'm an Onitsha man and any Onitsha person you meet will tell you that we are descended from the Benin kingdom, it's part of our history and we're not ashamed of it, we're still one of the greatest kingdoms in West Africa.

Three traditional monarchs that I admire in the South East.

Why won't he behave mature and with class when he not a product of Nigerian educational system nor workforce...studied Chemistry as a young man at University of California Berkeley and worked for over 3 decades as Shell Oil executive overseas....these alone will numb that Nigerian demon in most of us! Not like the tout you have as an Oba in Lagos..always trying to prove shiit; a product of Nigeria educational system and workforce/police

The word Obi as it relates to authority, means a house in the Igbo traditional family. That is where the head of the family sits to welcome visitors and mediate disputes within his family and beyond. The earliest known people to use the word Obi in Igboland to address their village chiefs was Nnewi, 1200AD. About 500 years before Onitsha appeared on the scene.

Dressing in white is not unique to any chiftaincy house in Nigeria. Akwa ocha as we call it, is prominent with the riverine/Northern Igbo. By the way, there is no mono culture. We are all a bit of one another in many ways and still evolving. It does not mean that those who wore "asho ebi" in Igboland today would be classified Yoruba tomorrow.

Do you have any link of an Onitsha chief making those "sacrifices" in Benin?

Benin empire was one time strong and trendy. It was about greatness and every community wanted to associate with the institution. The empire was tough enough to pick any individual from any community and make him chief of the people, and in line with the ruling structure/titles. Zik was like any other child told oral tradition.

We could be pure Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Idoma, Edo etc., by tribal classification, but no one is by DNA 100 percent of these tribes.

You are definitely not an Igbo man. Obi is purely an Igbo word and exists nowhere else. Obi is the title of many Igbo Kings even though there are numerous of such title. Eze or Igwe mostly come as prefix like Mr or Mrs.

As for Benin influence you are right. Benin influenced Igboland and Yorubaland equal becuse they are at the center and introduced monarchy in the lower Niger area which influenced us all.
